Now that my friend is the funniest thing I have heard all day……
Your wife might have attended the same driving school as my lovely bride. My wife’s 2019 Sequoia has had 3 front brake pad set replacements and 2 front rotors sets in only 80,000 miles!

My ex had an Outback that she claimed was making a noises. The noise was her caliper pistons collapsing the metal backplate s into her front rotors. Had been driving like that for months before I loved back from Hawaii.

Her dad also topped her oil off once without us knowing and forgot to screw the damn fill cap back on, so she got it honestly.

I’ve begun whispering in a friend’s ear that he needs a TRD Pro so I can drive the new platform.

That's the way to do it. Have someone else you know get a 24 Tacoma to see how it is before buying. Genius!

Women and car maintenance, I generally keep an eye on things, but she likes to not tell me when it start making noises. “How long has it been doing that?”…”Dunno, couple months.” …”

Never has gas in it either, every time I jump in it… “fuuuuuuuuck” always when I am in a hurry.

The biggest money pit anyone could ever buy is a boat.

Afraid is not the appropriate word--cautious perhaps. Toyota transitioned away from 4-cylinder for a reason.
I'm almost certain that I'm going to circle back to the 4G forum and see consumers complain about the turbos breaking and the expensive maintenance to boot. To each their own. I'll admire the nick knacks from a far in my 3G v6.

4cyl Toyota engines are used in Japan and Europe and have had them in current US models for 40-50 years. They never transitioned from 4cyl at all to my knowledge. The straight 6, yes. Not the 4cyl.

I trust the current 2.7 4 cylinder more than I do the 6. Almost bought one because of that, just not quite enough power for when I tow. Perfectly fine for running around though.

That said, turbos on a gasser will lessen its life span, whereas a turbo on a diesel is beneficial. Would have much rather see a diesel than a gasser, unfortunately that will never happen. If you want it, a private shop would have to do it, and it isn’t cheap. Buy the Chevy 3.0 1500 at that point.

IMO, EU and JP don't use their trucks like we do here in the grand-ol USA. Apples to Oranges comparison, bruv.

They use their trucks just as hard as Americans do. They just don't have as many.

Finally, some truth to this conversation. Thank you, Sir. I saw a few videos about a company that puts a VW Deiseal into the Taco for an obscene amount of mount.

Concur, would love a turbo diesel taco. MPGs + Power + Taco = Nirvana.

A lot more Hiluxes than Tacomas in the world and they have been using 4cyl turbo (diesels) for 20 years. I realize diesel is different than gas, they run cooler etc. But the new Tacoma engine produces power/torque at low rpm similar to a diesel, not high rpm like a lot of high HP "hot hatch" type cars. The Hiluxes I have seen first hand in Iraq, Afghanistan, and South America don't always get the best maintenance and drive off road a lot and yet are super reliable.

I don't think there is anything out their to qualify your statement. Maybe in Africa they use Toyos just as hard as USA IF not harder lol--but you can't convince me JP and EU.
