I worked in Houston at a refinery turnaround for 6 months. Never got around to seeing the zoo there. I did go to Gilley’s a few times

About 30 years ago I drove through Texas, end to end, in under 24 hours
(I was coming back from a visit at my sister's place in Phoenix).

I crossed into Texas at El Paso not long after sunset and drove all night.
Got stopped briefly at Van Horn by the Border Patrol, checking for illegals... WTF?
Got to Dallas just in time for the morning rush hour.
That was quite the white-knuckle experience for someone suffering from sleep deprivation.
Dense traffic, going at 80 mph plus.
What was worse, drivers would switch lanes abruptly without signalling...
... like that would get them there any faster
Crazy.

Crossed into Louisiana at Shreveport in the late afternoon.
I could hardly believe I got outta that state alive.





BTW, it's a really big state
