Castrol edge full synthetic

Just reached 3k miles on my 2023 tacoma v6. Going to be doing the first break in oil change. I’ve decided to go with Castrol edge extended performance and change the oil every 6 months/5k miles from here on. Any of you guys running the Castrol edge ?

 

Ran it in my 2008 Jetta (2.0 turbo) for 267,000 miles no problems.

I'm sure it's great oil. However, I've been using Mobil 1 Extended Performance.

This stuff claims 20k mile oil change intervals. According to that, and what you claim....it seems you're changing your oil 3 times too early. Thats major overkill. Changing your oil at 3k miles is even crazier. It's 2023 not 1923. These are advanced synthetics today. There's no need to change your oil that early.

OP: Any oil that meets Toyota published specifications is fine.

 

5k miles is for chumps that think they know more than both oil and the auto manufacturers. Waste f time and money…guaranteed

Toyota recommends 5K mile OCI....and 10K depending on use.

 

I did 15k miles oil changes with mobil1. The truck had nearly 300k miles when I sold it 19 years later, and it was still running like a champ...didn't touch a drop of oil. I think it was out of warranty by a bit.

 

In that case you'd do once a year oil changes. You'd be in the severe use category.....5k miles, or yearly.

 

I've seen enough 10k oil changes with mostly severe city use driving, and they've never appeared like that with mobil 1. I would guess someone used a very cheap dino oil and never change the filter to get those results. I'm even guessing they missed a few oil changes, or never did one.
