Ok, this is kind of a Friday question. I know time takes a toll on tires. I have a practicality new(2k miles) set of Toyo Open Country’s mounted on Pro wheels sitting in my garage, i took them off my SR before I sold it. I will eventually put them on my truck but would like to wear out the stock Wranglers on my OR first, I drive about 7-10k miles a year and was wondering what kind of mileage I can expect out of the Wranglers and will the Toyos hold up being stored in the garage?

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
Personally, I would not trust them, no matter how they are stored, after 6-7 years from manufacture.

My stock wranglers lasted about 20k. I replaced them at about 3-4/32s.
    Mixed city, highway and off-roading.

    got me some Duratracs.

My stock Goodyears were half gone at 20k. By 25k I replaced them. I then sold the stock wheels... super easy. You might even consider selling the stock tires and wheels as soon as you get your new Tacoma. Enjoy the Toyos! (I have Open Country's my 4Runner... nice tire!)

I got the truck last weekend. The OR wheels are starting to grow on me so I might run the wranglers for awhile then swap on the Toyos

Slather them in tire dressing and wrap them in plastic.

Don't store... Sell the ones you will not use. Buy new tires when you need them.

I as well debated keeping the stock wheels, but they're just common on TRD ORs in my area. I then bought the 16" Pros, which I love and it looks different from other ORs. The stock wheels went to a first generation Tundra, whose owner was elated with the purchase so it was cool.

It is heat, and sunlight that breaks down the rubber. If you can store the tires in a cool, dark storage area they will last longer. The recommended time is 6-7 years with 10 years at most. Check the date codes on the tires you want to save. They may already be 4-5 years old. If so I'd sell them. But if they are less than 2 years old and you think you'll use them in 2-3 years I think you'll be OK. Especially if stored carefully

If you end game is the wheels/tires you’re storing, then I’d sell the brand new wheels and/or tires. You can fetch some money brand new, but as soon as you put a few thousand miles on em, resale is going to drop quick.

Sunlight wouldn’t be a problem but it gets hot in the garage in summer. I bought the tires in January so I imagine they aren’t much older than that

I bought the black Pro wheels in January and once I put them on my SR I wasn’t to crazy about them, to much black. I think the Bronze Trail Edition wheels or Gunmetal Pro wheels would look good on a Lunar Rock truck

Deflate them to about 5-10 PSI, then wrap them up in plastic sheet and tape them closed. Sealing them in plastic should almost completely stop the rubber from deteriorating.

It’s all about the manufacture date and time from then. There were multiple articles about it (not sure where, sorry). Our friend google will know

agree with above, sell and buy new when you need

The factory Wranglers are trash, just sell them and swap to the Toyo's.

I've got 20K on the OR stocks and they still have good tread, but I put very little miles on them yearly now that I'm retired. Mine is mostly daily driving, no off roading. I'm fine with them but will change to something a bit more aggressive looking when I buy the bronze rims I'm looking at. I want to wear the OEMs out before I purchase the rims.

I got 40k out of mine but the age is a concern for your situation.

Thanks for the replies/advice. I think I’m just going to put on the Koyos/Pro wheels that I have just sitting in my garage, no point in having them just sit there. What is the average price on say Marketplace for Off Road wheels and Wrangler tires with 150 miles?

    best bet!
Resale is hit n miss, just depends how much time and patience you have. Also keep in mind,,, those OE TPMS sensors are not cheap, their resale could be worth as much as the wheel and tire for each corner. You'd probably get more having your tire store break them all down and listing, tires, wheels, TPMS separately, if the combos don't sell.
