    Yeah, I know.
But I figured I’d tag the guys that know “for sure”.
That way this doesn’t turn in to an argument. It will anyways….
Money has already been brought up……

It just cracks me up. Lets say, top end, your ECT "tune" with 93 octane. Lets say that gets you a massive 10hp gain.

You're still the on the front seat of the short bus in the passing lane at 75mph

I’ve only driven mine without ECT coming home from the dealer. Browsed through the manual that night, tried ECT the next day, and have been pushing that button every single time I start my truck since. No tune. I don’t need this truck to drive like a fast car. It feels good enough simply by pressing ECT.

Anyone that thinks a stock Tacoma is fast or powerful, probably belongs on the short bus.
Not direct at you OP, it’s a fact. The Tacoma is a dog, always has been.
It’s reliable, but it’s not fast.

They put the 3.5 in the lexus and it's zippity do da quick. Ours were de-tuned for truck life. You can overcome some of that aftermarket, but a button on the dash and some higher octane gas does not a high performance tune make

    We have a Lexus RX350.
It definitely has a better tune.
Quicker for sure. But realistically, they tuned the Tacoma for “truck” stuff.
Towing and low speed driving. The Lexus would not pull a load like the Tacoma.

The difference's between "Normal" and "ECT" are functionally:

    1) Throttle Mapping
    2) Shift Schedules / TCC Lockup & Release Mapping
    3) Transmission Torque Tables

They do not run any differently in ECT than Normal in regards to fueling, ignition timing, cam timing, ACIS or any other engine parameter.

    Me too.
    I had a 2000 Ford Lightning.
My fast(ish) truck days are over and gone.

Sounds about right. I came from a Ram 1500 with the hemi. Fast AF for a truck (as the kids say), but I couldn’t count on any of the electronics to ever work right.

It’s actually a silly conversation. To me a sports car or a motorcycle should be quick.A truck is what it is a truck. The Tacoma is fine. But we’ve been down this road before . I’ve always said out trucks are plenty powerful enough . But hey what do I know. I drove cars and trucks years ago they were truly slow. Now
A Corolla feels like a rocket to me .

    I drive a Miata.
If I pump the pedal twice before starting, knock on the dashboard three times, program NPR as the first radio slot, and slam a jolt cola, then the truck accelerates 15% better.

    I'm a scientist. I thought about doing a study.
