Had some guy ragging on my taco the other day about what a piece of shit it is and how american trucks are so much better, than he goes to say I bet your always having problems with your engine and the check engine light being...Just kind of ignored it at the time. But now its got me thinking, whats a check engine light and what exactly does this thing do... Im not very familiar with it :D

On any vehicle I have owned, it monitors the catalytic converter for functionality.

It either means the air sensor is bad or it needs to be reset.

A more knowledgeable mechanic may give more details...

Sorry Nate. On inspection, I see the grin but didn't get the sarcasm.

There are so many obvious questions posed by members that I just answer what I know :D

Yeah, STFU would be a good response to them...

I have a 96 tacoma with 320,000 kms thats 200,00miles. Got my Engine light at 315,000, turned out to be the 02 sensors. Changed them my self, took 2 hours with minor rust problems.

When folks give me crap about 'American Trucks' I just open my door and point to the sticker where is says "MFD by TOYOTA MANUFACTURING.CALIFORNIA.INC" and say "That's in America...Where my truck is made! Let's check yours!" You'd be surprised how often their truck isn't built in the USA. Many times it is, but you can get lucky occasionally!
