Yup! I track my Cayman 2-3x a year. My truck sees plenty of gravel and campsites. Thats the extent of it.

The whole, "if you own a vehicle and don't use it 110% of the time doing extreme shit, you're a poser" mentality is so ridiculous. Even funnier when they think manufacturers should be spec'ing vehicles from the factory to suit the .0001% of owners.

Need a one do-it-all vehicle. That and I don’t like cars, looked at Subarus which I could make work, few of my dirt bike buddies have gone that route, but the Taco swallows stuff a hell of a lot better, plus keeps the filth out of the drivers cabin. Tends to bounce down Forest Service roads better than Subies, less chance of ripping the undercarriage up, don’t have to be too-too careful with the Taco, point and shoot.

Great for grocery runs too, love the Access Cab for tossing a few bags back there. Think I am at the grocery store every other day. Not much for stocking up on things. Probably drive past 10-12 of them if not more on the work commute.

It is, but with today’s tech, we should be able to pick and choose exactly how we want it built. Just punch it into the computer, and mostly the robots slap it together. Especially at the prices these things command nowadays.

Was watching a James May show at the Mini factory, and that was how they were assembling them, per the customer’s option sheet.

Ford is better at doing ala carte than Toyota. Really shouldn’t have to buy an upper trim to get a rear locker. Ford will let you do it in the base XL, plus get to pick the gear ratio too.

Where?? Not in the USA, but they probably will in the next generation to replace the 3.5

The Lexus line has far more turbo models right now, which is where they have trickled down to the Toyotas from

“Hey Tacoma Bros, good morning from a nondescript place in Africa. We’re just trying to use our Tacomas as hard as you Americans this morning. You know, getting more dirt time in these beasts than those posers in Japan and Europe. What’s your favorite accessory for HARD CORE Tacoma owners like us studs in America and Africa? Companies like “CaliRaised”, 4WheelParts.com and “Tacoma LifeStyle” dont ship to us, so we’re kind of limited compared to you BAD ASSES. But to be fair we don’t have as many parking lot speed bumps here. So we run mostly stock. Question, can I fit 33’s without cutting? I might have to run into town for some groceries and want to be outfitted with the optimal setup in case I have to roll a parking stall curb. Any leads on recovery gear? I have to slap up a quick IG photo this weekend and want to look over-land-ish, you know. Also, what kind of valve stem covers are you all running? Anyway, cheers from the Sahara”.

To me the best 4 banger Toyota has produced 22R- Series. A little underpowered but can run forever. The turbo version was very reliable and used in the Celica as well as the hilux

Turbo timers are back baby! Gonna get me a slick apexi one with some neon underglow.

But all seriousness anyone who runs the engine hard and puts it away wet is going to see some oil leaks in their turbos.

The 2024 Tacoma will not have a NA 4,6, or 8 engine. Neither will the 2025,2026,2027... If you don't like that, then the Tacoma is not for you. So post elsewhere, otherwise you are effectively trolling. That doesn't mean you can't be critical, I think Toyota should have offered a PHEV, I think the Iso Seats should be a Pro option not standard (save money/gain rear seat leg room), sway bar disconnect should be offered on OR, etc.

Like it or not, we are going EV. Ten years from now it will be the gas drivers bitching about not being able to find a "gas" station within 30 minutes of their route while long range EVs pass dozens of high speed charging stations.

Where does it say the OR will not have push button sway bar disconnect?

Depends, had 3 of those engines, 2 in my ‘85 4Runner, first one went at 125K, the replacement had crank bearing failure at 150K, still a lot of miles, but never reached legendary status. The plastic timing chain guides were prone to break.

The 3rd in my ‘92 had an oil pump failure. Lots of legend and lure around that engine, not my personal experience with them.

Just because the internet says it is good, doesn’t mean it is.

It is funny, I get guys who want to buy my ‘99, they always say the same thing, those are supposed to be super reliable! Tell them, dude this thing hasn’t been reliable for years and years. Always something that needs fussing with.

Some journalists have said it's optional on the OR but I haven't seen anything directly from Toyota.

Well, my personal experience has been different. 98 Hilux 450,000 km (280k Miles) and still chugging along . Any engine can have failures but the General consensus on the 22R is that it is a reliable and easy to work engine.

Yeah everyone’s personal experience will be different. Sold the 4Runner at 225K, and the ‘92 at 150K, both needed lots of repairs besides the engine.

My ‘99s engine finally went at 435K miles, which is great! But it also needs a timing belt and water pump every 90K, which I consider a major repair. Had numerous oil leaks, injector failures, throttle body rebuilt. Have rebuilt just about everything else in the drive train and suspension, some multiple times.

If one thinks they can just change the oil and put gas in these things, they are mistaken. Love my Toyota trucks, but they are far from perfect.

All this anecdotal evidence is just that.

Need a data spread sheet of all the repairs to determine the quality of a vehicle.
