Update: Rear shock has a .4 volume spacer according to fox site and looking up the Tune ID on website. Gonna Jump to a .8 for bike park season and If I feel the need to come back to a .6 will do that. Would rather do it this way so I can hopefully really feel the change

You should be able to find a set up that doesn't bottom out on a 4.5 foot drop. The volume spacers your trying is a good place to start.

I barely know suspension tuning stuff so in theory: larger spacer, add some rebound? although rebound would stop bottom outs for repeated hits not big hits like a single drop right? this shock doesnt have a high and low speed compression. just a 3 position switch. Could also just run a lower sag as well I guess, but I love that floaty feeling off the top

Damn, I'm a sucker for those. That's a good idea for a refresh on a tough ride.

I think you've got it... a bigger spacer and maybe 1-2 clicks of rebound damping should do it. That should keep the top part of the travel nice and soft while adding a little progression to stop the bottom out.

You're also spot on that reducing rebound damping could keep you from bottoming out on repeated hits, but that's assuming you're bottoming out because the suspension is sitting too low in it's travel. You'd likely have a sensation that the bike was sitting back like a trophy truck. If that's not the case then faster rebound could create a bucking bronco type ride. Since it sounds like you're just talking about a single big drop then I think a volume spacer is your answer. On higher end suspension you might be able to increase high speed compression damping and accomplish what you want as well, but it's probably just gonna make things harsh with your set up.

2021 orbea rallon with a 2021 dpx2. So I opened it up and previous owner already had a .8 volume spacer in there. What to do now hmmm. I guess crank psi for bike park and run a slower rebound so Itll let it float some through the top? 1.06 volume spacer I imagine wont make a massive difference. Can I simply add a .4 spacer below it like you would just add tokens in the fork? Or would that not work without the o ring and flat metal piece to make the assembly sit right

What's the Tune ID and your riding weight?

Going to try to do some neighborhood rides again. I went to get my road helmet that I thought I replaced - guess I never replaced it. My normal halfshell is a bit too endurobro for hood rides and paved loop rides. Long story short I didnt realized Smith had a bunch of reasonably priced helmets, so nabbed one. Fits good and looks good.

Don’t have the number and letters off the top of my head but the tune ID calls for just a .4 and my riding weight is about 165. I had the shock set at 185~ pounds when I did that drop. I did also land front first too and still bottomed the rear super fast

can I still add in a .4 even though there’s already a .8 in there?

Truth. Keep riding though, you get there quicker than you’d expect. And every year is a little easier.
I found longer rides every other day, or shorter rides back-to-back work fast.

Yeah! So good to get out. Went for a ride with a good friend yesterday. Early season river crossing included.
Think we might get a whole dads crew today.

PSA: Evil is having a 20% off sale this weekend on most things. That means you can snag a XO transmission top shelf build for around 6500.

I've been thinking about the Following. I might have to get it to see how close it matches Lunar Rock.

I don’t remember if i asked, but what bottle cage did you go with. My SDU coil hits the bottle on my fidlock 590ml.
Plus adding stack of the one up pump makes it worse.

How do you like it? This is my 5th summer on a Following MB, and I can’t decide if I was another Following or something with more travel. I’ve also been eyeing the Revel Rascal, but I think that frame design is a few years old and I’m not sure when it’ll get an update.

Loved it. Sold it for no real good reason other than change.

If you’re on an MB now, you know what you’d get with the LS. Between a Following and a Rascal I’d be gunning for the UDH compatible Following without question. The current sale could help that decision.

I totally understand the desire to try something different though.
