As an only vehicle, not a second car and be reasonable within your current means. (Such as I'd trade it for a Rivian, Bmw M5 or F150 Raptor) but still have the same current income.

Moving up to a newer gen tacoma or different model counts, and justification why-commuting more, larger family, want a fast car, etc.

    Go

I'd probably just move to a 4th gen taco. Love toyota, love tacomas, and love that they're keeping the MT.

Mod list... Well, my paint is factory.
I "replaced" mine with a 2021 Tesla Model 3LR, but I of course kept the Tacoma, I merely replaced the daily driver aspect. If I was going to replace the Tacoma itself, maybe a Gladiator.

Uhh what do we do if the Tacoma is our second vehicle?

I ended up in a tacoma after well over a year of bs trying to get a bronco built. So probably a bronco.

Impossible to answer. I start with a use case analysis based on current habits.

    Needs:
I need something that can commute, navigate traffic, park downtown, haul my dogs, and tow my camp trailer.

    Strong Wants:
I frequently transport camping gear, tools, lawn and garden things, and home improvement runs. I want something that fits in the garage.

    Mild wants:
Go fast, look cool, sip fuel. Manual transmission. Fully loaded. Cheap in price.

Given above, vehicle classes that fit, ranked most to least:
Midsize trucks, full size SUV, full size trucks, vans

Models that check the most boxes, ranked:
Tacoma, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Durango, Frontier

I like the exterior size, price, and function of the Tacoma. I would like to fix the ride, power, fuel economy, smoothness, and maybe interior size.

The 4th gen looks tempting with the power and hopefully efficiency.

PHEV would be nice, both in power delivery and driving cost. That puts the gladiator in the running except it costs a LOT, and the reliability is suspect.

Midsized ev? That is the rivian and it's too expensive.

Full size? Really thinking about it. The cost is through the roof right now though.

Full size ev? Can't get your hands on a lightning. GM doesn't have a great track record so would rather see a few years on their platform, similar for Dodge. The Tesla looks tempting and if the price is as I expect it looks like a great option, too bad it's ugly and makes it look like you want attention.

For me it's a GM fill size or a phev gladiator if I want to risk it (and the price comes down).

Replaced my 2016 TRD Off Road with a 2022 F150 Tremor. The taco went to my 16 yr old with only 62k miles on it. Loved the taco but it was not good for road-trips. Too cramped. Loving the Tremor’s interior size, power (400HP/500 lbs of torque) and smoothness on the highway. Gets better mpg also. My 2000 F150 lasted me 17 years with barely any problems. Fingers crossed on this one with all the tech.

    One...I wouldn't
    Two...I already have a 4Runner

But...if I ever did replace it it would likely be for a 6spd Jetta Sportwagen TDI

    Or a Kei truck

Regular Cab short bed GM 1500 or F-150. Those are the closest thing to a RC Tacoma in production today. 2nd would be a 2dr Bronco... distant 3rd 2dr Jeep Wrangler. Obviously it would need to be a short wheel base vehicle, and preferably have a bed.

3.5 is nice, so is the Super Cab Tremor is the most appealing trim for F-150.

e90 m3 is a good one, very well rounded and can do just about everything
M5 is bigger but less reliable
340Xi is a good one if you’re in a place that snows or 540 x drive if you want bigger

E82 135 is smaller, has more torque, and can bolt that M3's suspension to it for about 2K parts value. ;)

No interest in getting rid of my 3rd gen. just off the top, since this is hypothetical, I would still need a truck bed. Would also need lockers, at least in the rear. probably between the chevy colorado zr 1 or 2 and jeep gladiator. If i had to decide now, w/o more research i would go the gladiator route since I have had 4 plus chrysler products over the years w/no issues.
