I don't think EVs will be the future. Lots of power companies ask people to sign up for the rolling black outs and many places have had them for decades. If they can't get ahead of that with the infrastructure as well as the many other problems with infrastructure, then there is no way in 10 yrs EVs will be dominant. Plus it takes far to long to charge.

I have heard of hydrogen power but the process to make the fuel is so ungodly power hungry that I can't see how that's sustainable. All on all I enjoy fossil fuels. After all we are just recycling dead plant and animal matter.

While me personally I am not against turbos in a gasser, just got done driving my co-workers Bronco, damn! Smokes my 3G Tacoma. Could get into a lot of trouble with that!

Once upon a time Mike Sweers was against gas turbos. Circa 2014…

    https://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motor...s-another-run-pickup-loyalists-193236468.html

“Under the hood, there are no changes, by design. Tundra Chief Engineer Mike Sweers says Toyota chose to stick with the traditional large-displacement engines — up to a 5.7-liter V-8 that can generate 381 hp — and not dare to venture into Ford EcoBoost-style turbos, which Sweers says gets no better fuel efficiency and offers less power. "There's no replacement for displacement," says the Toyota engineer who grew up in Michigan and works outside of Detroit, a living example of how Toyota rarely gives up.”

My guess since all the other manufacturers are doing it, they didn’t want the Tacoma to loose its crown.

It is stored solar energy…one could say that ICE vehicles are indeed solar powered. :p

    4X4X4…

4WD, 4 wheel steering, quad cab.

Gotta be freaky to drive. Had VW Westy for 8 years…it was like sitting in the front car of wooden roller coaster, rode about as well too…

Its because it isn't the Toyota way. They rarely are the first to do something. Especially that major. It needs to be proven. So of course they would say that when it was first being adopted.

They went to a 4cly turbo because they had an engine and technology they had proven and makes more power more efficiently then any other Tacoma ever made.

"Use only reliable, thoroughly tested technology that serves your people and processes."

Mercedes says it will be full electric by 2030.
GM says they will be full electric by 2035.
Ford and GM have agreed to use Tesla's charging network.
Tesla Supercharger gives 200mi range in 15min, today and probably better in the future.

I feel like all the "fully electric by 20XX" is just marketing BS and no one will actually do it. But we will see. The 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks is where I see the problem. Somebody like Mercedes may be able to pull there claim off.....we will see

“The Toyota Way” is only good to a point. US never did get diesels like the HiLux counterpart, those made more power and quite a bit more efficient. Think a lot of it is Toyota being cheap and milking it for the US market.

Making a diesel Hilux US emissions and safety compliant would cost too much.

The Camry has an N/A 4-cylinder and a V6. The last turbocharged Camry sold in North America is the 1986 Camry with the turbo diesel.

Somehow Ford, Ram, and GM were able to do it. Yet, Toyota the number 1 auto manufacturer can’t?

How successful are Ford, Ram, and GM in the international markets?

What does that have to do with Toyota refusing to offer a diesel in the US?

Much like them doing suspension seats in the Pro, rather than taking the effort to actually improve the truck’s suspension like what Ford and GM do for their halo vehicles. Doing offset wheels to increase track is kinda chicken shit move on a vehicle at that price point.

Toyota is just being cheap and lazy. Their diesels are wildly successful in other markets, why not give the US market a shot? Obviously too late now, since diesels are on their way out. Toyota should have offered it decades ago, instead they drag their feet.
