Bought this used for cheap money and despite all the shade around intakes, they absolutely DO make a difference. Not a huge difference but surely noticeable. For me it seemed to help the truck with midrange throttle response. I’m in a manual so maybe less noticeable in a Tacoma with two pedals if the trans is keeping you out 3-5k rpm range.

I went with the S&B AIC, it looks awesome when u open the hood and I love the sound it makes when I Rev up, and the "sucking air" sound is a plus too.

I think it also gives better throttle response. I agree it sounds better. There is no HP gain.

I posted this elsewhere, but I think the TRD intake is a bit like a black lace brassiere: it may not actually increase performance, and most people won’t see it. But, aesthetically speaking for those who DO see it, totally worth the cost.

    Your mileage may vary.

Went with the TRD intake, paid $368 out the door, no tax no shipping!! You can part it out and pay a few bucks less. There are sooo many to choose from and it comes down to personal preference.

Has anyone actually datalogged the MAF signal with any of these aftermarket intakes? From the looks of MAF placement on some of them, it is probably dirty AF and needs rescaled.

I just ordered the Mishimoto silicone intake tube.

Any difference from the HPS vs. Misimoto?

Looks identical and was a little less expensive.

No money, all went to truck...
There was a guy on the 4runner forums that dyno tested different set ups on his 3rd gen 4runner. He did K&N, amsoil, NA, SC, and turned out for the 4runner, removing the fender stock "snorkel" (yes, it had a weird snorkel in the fender), and using a drop in amsoil gave a ~15 HP gain. K&N actually had a loss of HP. He ends with SC, amsoil filter, some other mods and would smoke all the rice burners at the track.

Endless debating around hp and still no conclusive dynos with the different setups to show evidence of HP gain?? Cmon son.

Went with a snorkley doo-dah. For the 2 years it’s been on it has worked dandy for how it was supposed to..

Never clogged a filter, never ingested water, never had issues with heavy snow or rain for extended driving periods, no issues with dust and sand when I drove the Pony Express.. I can’t go through a drive through anymore but that ships sailed with the rack lol

And yes I have been with friends with factory and aftermarket setups and all have had some sort of air intake issue at some point during our adventures.
