I actually did some welding today!!!...and forgot to get a pic after the welding. Wasn't anything pretty anyway. The guy showed to pick it up and we got to talking...forgot my pics!

Neighbor is making a rally car out of an old Miata. He's mounting a T-25 turbo and asked me if I could make an adapter plate to go to the exhaust.

Drew it up in conFusion 360 last night. I cut an 18 gauge test part, then two pieces at 6mm each to be welded together.

    20230616_103130[1].jpg

He wanted it "at least 1/2" thick". I told him that was overkill, but, it's his car. I cut two of these, bolted them together, and welded them up.

    20230616_150338[1].jpg

Designed and made this a couple days ago. I was happy with it. 18 gauge. I'll probably cut a 26 gauge back plate for strength and more color. It's actually fairly rigid w/out a plate, but 26 gauge is only $1/ft2 right now, so why not add some color to make it pop.

I'm never gonna refer it as F360 again.

    conFusion. Perfect!

Did some cardboard aided design for a skid; will draw it up on Fusion later tonight

It'll be out of 1/4" plate, and will utilize 3 existing bolt holes on the crossmember as well as having an opening for drain port access

Should be fun putting it on the press brake to get the intended bends below

    20230616_142955.jpg

Also took care of my neighbor's aluminum patio furniture; this one had a severely bent center piece

Problem is, he'd have to return the whole thing and wait for weeks as it's on backorder through the company. Too much time has passed to return it to Home Depot so I figured I'd bend it back and weld it back up

And my idea of that skid plate -

    Screenshot 2023-06-16 185334.png

I'll be cutting it out of 16 gauge first for mock up reasons being 1. figure the right angle of the bends needed and 2. figure out the mounting point for the rear of the skid to the frame

I am guessing you never learned the math to figure angles out from your measurements.:anonymous:

Then you will use any excuse to fire that table up.:oldglory:

@Kwikvette this looks like something you might be interested in checking out. It's a new "trace to SVG" coming out this month for <$100 through Kickstarter.

I retired from running stationary boilers. Been in a few drums myself. Fire boxes, no big deal, but the drums can cause some anxiety. Lol.

Some of us suffer from memory loss :bananadead:

So I'll need to learn the sheet metal function in Fusion 360.

Very nice and good work in Fusion. I'm not a fan of the size and font of the text though.. especially since it'll very rarely been seen and just seem to cause a hang-up point underneath. Have you considered just putting a small KF in block font instead?

I absolutely did consider just that, but wanted to toy with it based on size of the overall piece; that drawing is for a 16 gauge template.

After drawing it, I personally didn't like it either but I was forced to go that way because of the bends required above the drain hole (see cardboard cutout above).

Of course it'll only matter on the real plate and I may end up with KF near the top-center.

That's how my mini-TIG cart is set up with the lettering -

    20230527_160701.jpg

This was just supposed to be a bottle holder initially.

I expect it to be easy just like everything else in the program. I was just lost for a moment cause I didn't see many settings when I first clicked on the Sheet Metal tab.

May have to watch a Youtube video since the little one is entertained temporarily...

I agree and Kwikvette does nice work! Just figured I'd share a thought considering the intended function (skid plate.)

    @koditten

Didn't take long to figure out

    Screenshot 2023-06-17 070926.png

Guess the question is, how will this translate to my actual piece cut?

I didn't see the option to tell it how thick it was. Guess that's another lesson on top of figuring out if it changes dimensions for me to make up for the radius at each bend.
