    AIR FILTER QUESTION

So I was working the other day at Home Depot in Westfield, Mass. and a customer and I started talking about our Tacoma's, he said he is a former GM Mechanic and purchased his first TRD Offroad and is very pleased with it, he told me that if my truck was built in California. to take out my air filter as they installed a piece of charcoal filter attached to the air filter bottom and it restricts air flow, I haven't even looked yet, but has anyone ever heard of this?
I plan on installing a K&N air filter in place of the stock filter. Thoughts, Comments?

Owned my truck for about 2 months now and just passed the first 5k miles on it and got it services the other week!

    upload_2023-6-17_11-10-1.png

Bonus: I was going to drive to the gas station nearest to my house on the way home and I calculated the amount of gas I had and I would have 5 miles left when I arrive and figured I was safe only to get to that gas station and see from the road that the station was closed and getting demolished......... Bro it was butt puckering trying to get to the next closest one and thankfully it was at a slight downward decline road lol.

I'm starting to feel the same way about my Air Intake. I drove last fall from Anaheim to El Paso and the drone is all I heard. Now any highway trip I take, the sound is seared into my brain.

Someone requested another front license mount for an SSO bumper. I can make these by request. Thanks to @WaitingOnMyR1T for being the 1st to use it.

I put a Gibson stainless exhaust on the 3rd gen. To me that was the perfect sound on the 3.5. At that time there were tons of other brands being sold in the used market because people were not happy with them. I was considering a TRD but the Gibson was $200 cheaper.

    Looks great!
Fortunately my state just dropped our long standing front licence plate law or that is something I'd probably order.
Although I don't have one yet, those SSO hybrid bumpers are exactly what I've been after.

Test loading the bed platform for my trip on Wednesday, everything fits except my WaterPort :(
Need to figure where I want to mount it or find a place to tuck it away.

Can you put the mount on your molle panel? That way it has somewhere while you drive. That’s what i did with mine but i dont have a drawer system

That is where I had it mounted, on the passenger side molle panel but with the platform in place I don't have space for it anymore.
My topper rails won't allow me to have the WaterPort up high enough to clear the platform.
So I might just transport it empty and fill it with my 5gal water jug then use my Milwaukee inflator to pressurize it when I need it.

Which air intake do you have? Was thinking about swapping in the TRD Flow Accelerator (not the whole TRD intake kit). Is that what you have? Don't want to trade one drone for another. ;) TIA!

Those molle panels mount under the rail system? That’s pretty sweet if so, the cali raised ones just blocks off the whole fucking thing so if i want bed rails I’ll have to cut notches in them or something

That stinks though, I would think you can use the rails to mount if not the molle :/

Yeah transporting it empty works just feels less than ideal

The molle panels are made by https://builtrightind.com/
They do mount behind the rails and are very well made panels. I love them.

K&N filters are quite porous. Stuff gets through, stuff like "more air" and stuff like dirt.

No free lunch, it's your choice. I go for the pleated paper (WIX)

Look really nice! I had looked at them but didnt realize the way they install before. I have a tonneau cover so they wouldn’t work for me and my relocated brackets i dont think anyways

I "think" the tank on my 2021 still contains about three gallons of fuel when the display shows 1 mile to empty. This is based on how much fuel I could pump in compared to the specified fuel tank capacity.

I've been down to that stage three times now in 25K miles of driving. The worry and frantic search for an open station doesn't seem to get better with experience ;-)
