So you basically start on one end and work out towards the other.

You work off a basic sketch, then go to create a flange. Make sure you draw lines where you want your bends to be; do not extrude your sketch.

Flange will automatically 'extrude' it and you will be asked to choose a side (1 or 2). I picked 2 as that will apply the sketch on top of your solid, versus below it. You can opt to work whichever way you want.

Once you've selected your material (it didn't let me input a thickness, just STEEL IN.), you can proceed with using the bend feature.

When utilizing the bend feature, remind yourself that the first thing you're choosing is STATIONARY side which means, this part (towards the rear of your work piece not bent) will sit in place, and everything ahead of it that you choose on the other side of your line will be bent.

    Really easy!

What are people using for Fusion 360 training? I miss the (g)olden days where AutoDesk (and pretty much any shrink-wrapped software) supplied a fat user manual booklet where you could read about every function.

Self-taught and a video or two cause it seems those working this program posting videos have the thickest accents I've run across.

I'm 100% YouTube trained. Like said, there are some thick accents to wade thru. For the most part I've not had a hard time finding English 1st content providers.

    @koditten

I posted my question on Langmuir group (Facebook) cause I thought...maybe I'm crazy in thinking that Fusion will recalculate my dimensions to make up for the bends but I guess it does it for you.

Trying to figure it out but I bet I'll get the answer right away anyway; I couldn't see the option anywhere when I was in Fusion and it didn't allow me to edit certain parameters where I thought I would input my desired thickness.

    Ok update.

You need to draw your initial sketch when you are in the Design -> Sheet Metal section of Fusion.

Drawing your sketch in Design - > Sketch then bringing it over to Sheet Metal will only bend your design given the dimensions on your drawing. But drawing the sketch in Sheet Metal will adjust and automatically compensate for when you bring your design over to CAM.

I am sure glad I have been following along .

Otherwise I would have no clue what was being discussed .

This seems like a useful skill to learn to help my mind to keep working and not get bored.

If you can copy and paste using a computer mouse, you can learn F360.

Using the software really opens up your mind on how things are designed and built now days.

Just like we constantly judge welds we see in our everyday life, you will do the same realizing that an item was designed using CAD software vs a bar napkin.

I'm really glad I dove into it 3-4? Years back. I had very limited computer skills and zero cad experience.

if you've got a gaming keyboard, many can be programmed to do that as well.

What about a few sheets cut and bent then weld them together with nice paint above your Kwik Fab logo to make it standout.

    Can you bend 1/4"?

Probably missed it, this is just a template to be used to ensure both dimensions as well as figuring out a rear mount to the frame.

Once done, I'll cut the updated design out of 1/4".

It's a transfer case skid plate for my Land Cruiser.

I under stand I have had people provide the steel and want me to make skid plates or other interesting goodies by using pieces of the 1/16" layered and welded.

Though many times it was 3/8" or 1/2" plate

It only takes a little adjustment at any openings because of bending.

When things are free one uses what one can.

You can bend 1/4" with no problem?

Damn, 3/8" or 1/2" is beefy as hell.

On many vehicles, 3/16" will suffice (steel) as it's strong enough already and thick enough to resist getting bent if mounted properly.

Yeah, the same brake I bent that 16 gauge will easily bend up to 3/16" thick utilizing the full width of the brake at 19", or down to 15" wide for 1/4" thick steel.

Can do 3/8" thick steel at 11" wide.
