I bought them because of width and offset over looks, and couldn't beat the price.

Same reason why I bought my TRD "Beadlocks". I just wish there was a good looking 17x7 or 17x7.5 our there. Admittedly, and perhaps unfortunately, I'm just as much about aesthetics as performance :(

Hi all. I just ordered some 17” OEM TRD Pro 4 runner wheels and am seriously considering pizza cutters.

How is the fuel efficiency with these tires compared to stock? Any handling differences? How are they for freeway driving? I love that they sit taller, but am also considering 285/70/r17.

I appreciate this thread and all the insights!

I gained about 1 to 1.5 MPG over my 285/70/17. The drivability is way better too.

awesome! Thank you for sharing. Could you share how it improved driveability? I live in Arizona…I know skinny’s are great for snow and mud…but what about desert trails?

Desert trails in my area have been great with the tall skinnies

Awesome. I love the idea of greater clearance with the tall skinnies and know I can always air down if needed…

Im also in the beautiful southwest just one state over, New Mexico. Haven’t done any real off-roading yet but dirt roads have been fine. Still need to see how they do aired down.

My 285/70’s were just heavy. 4Runner felt sluggish and struggled maintaining 75 on the highway. Maybe more of an in my head thing but still. Now with the 255/80’s it cruises 75 on the highway no problem.

I’d heard cornering and turning was weird or sketchy going to the skinnies but I have yet to experience that. I’m on 3” suspension and 1” body lift. No front sway bar and I haven’t noticed any difference from the 285/70’s as far as handling or road manners.

Just got my 255/75R17s on with no lift.

Took it on a 300 mile trip through the Colorado mountains. 21.6 MPG and lots of fun.

I found this thread when I got my new truck and wanted to change it up some. Just got the tires, 255/80-17 Falken Wildpeak at3s. These will go on 17x8 +5 TRD Pro Sema style wheels. Hopefully get these mounted in a few days and will update with more pics, how they fit and ride.

Might have been mentioned by didnt want to read all 285 post.

My skinny tire is a 245/70R17 Yokohama ice guard winter on replica toyota alloys which is almost exactly the same diameter as my summer 265/65R17 Alenza plus which is the stock size

Now if only we could get more skinny options. I mean, it seems to be happening but just not quickly. And availability of similarly narrow wheels is still somewhat nonexistent :(

    Agreed. I would kill for a 255/85/16 BFG A/T.

I might actually be down to run BFG's if they made them in that size, lol. But I'd still prefer something from Falken or Toyo. Seems you can really only get an MT in that size and gotta step up to 17's for an AT... and then good luck finding a wheel that isn't 8.5-9" wide

That’s the real struggle. I need a 17x7-7.5 0 offset wheel. Tires look a bit goofy on the 8.5s but I haven’t had any issues yet.

Hah came here to post this!

Man I hope the Falken AT4w comes in 255/75R17... I should read up but I'm worried about stuffing 255/80R17 into a relatively stock truck...
