2016 Tacoma Lift Kit & Price

Hi All,

I was at 4Wheel Works recently getting a price quote for a 1.0 to 3.5 inch lift kit and installation which amounted to $5000 give or take. (see attached pdf)

This price seems a little expensive to me as I was hoping to spend $3500 max. Do you guys have any suggestions as to different parts or set ups that would lower my cost? $5K is the same as a down payment on a new car, and I wanted to get some rock sliders which according to 4WP would cost me another $1000 with the additional install cost of approximately $300, pushing the total cost to $6300!

This is the low cost option. If I wanted a higher end install with a better kit and mandatory bigger rims, I am looking at $12,000 including the rock sliders which is a whopper of a cost.

Any help or advice as to how to lower my cost with a comparable lift kit, without the high associated cost would be greatly appreciated.

 

Cost to install seems a little high. I was quoted $800 for a similar install. That is install price not the parts.

It all depends upon what you want to do with the truck. Is the lift for looks or function?

 

Yes, we need to know what you plan to do with the truck?
At the risk of sounding like a jerk.

If you plan to wheel the truck, you need to learn to work on it.
Stuff will break, and having someone else fix it gets expensive.

My point here is, can you do the install and save yourself $1,500 in labor?

 

I am most definitely not doing this as a fashion statement as illustrated by the winch in the front grill and the rack on top...this is so that I can take the truck off-road like it is supposed to be used for, and for thst I need the rock sliders as I mentioned, in addition to the 2-3" lift so that I can use bigger tires than the current stock ones, and have the clearance to navigate some gnarly boulders...so hopefully this is clear enough to satisfy these silly questions...I wouldn't be in this forum or a member of California 4 wheel drive association if I was trying to make a fashion statement.

In answer to Tnshooter, if I knew how to do the mechanics I wouldn't be getting a quote from 4WP now would I? No I am not a mechanic, nor do I want to tinker with a 2016 Tacoma's suspension at this stage...maybe in 10 years when I have nothing better to do with my time and am retired.

In addition, to answer Ace96, $800 is incredibly cheap. What components did you use? As you can see from the pdf from Toytec, there is no lift kit that I know of that costs that cheap, even if you do it yourself. I would be grateful in your reply if you would be a little more informative and factual about your components instead of trying to fathom my reasoning for asking the question, thanks.

If you drop the attitude more people will be willing to help you. If you read ace96’s reply you will see he clearly stated the $800 is install and NOT parts.

 

First off, you don’t need to buy a bunch of shit to go off road especially “a rack up top” and in doing so it doesn’t prove any of your intentions. Loads of people buy a bunch of awesome off road stuff and never use it. Second if you can’t put sliders on yourself you’re pathetic.

You asked how to save money on this, the best way is to do your own install and buy stuff when it’s on sale. Since your time is too precious to spend “tinkering on your truck” cause you’re busy working. Then you’re gonna have to spend that money you’re working for on labor. If you don’t like that answer sorry. I’d suggest doing a bunch more reading on here and elsewhere, maybe watch some YouTube videos or something? Cause a lot of your information is off already.

$800 was quote to change front and rear shocks, UCAs, and rear leafs. Again install only…I would supply parts.

 

I don’t know how else to help.
If you can’t and don’t want to do the install yourself.
Then all you can do is hunt a different shop that can sell and install for less.
I understand not wanting to do it yourself.

 

I asked for the decency to break it down in so far as useful information and I get these snarky comments instead...now who has the attitude?..lol...some of you guys really take the cake. Just because I am a full-time Bridge and Tunnel contractor doesn't warrant this crap...go get a life dude and stop trolling this thread.

 

What was your cost for the parts? Where did you get the parts? Can you send me the link so that everyone on this site can be informed and can make informed decisions about how to move forward? Are you based in California like me or elsewhere? California can be expensive because of the high cost of living and associated costs. I am not worried about the $1360 for the install cost...I can more than afford it. I'd like to see if there are other options as far as costs in so far as the parts. Do I need all of the parts mentioned on the 4WP quote to put the bigger tires and take the vehicle offroad?

 

I am not in Commie…I mean California. I haven’t decided but I am either going to do the Eibach stage 2 lift and Icon rxt leaf pack from Hoshot off-road or I may splurge and pick up a set of tuned Fox shocks from Accutune. Plan on adding JBA UCAs.

Hotshot and Accutune are both vendors on here. You can find links to website there. JBA you can buy direct off their website.

I am probably looking at 2-2.5 inches of lift. I don’t want to max out the coil over and it ride like ass.

 

It wasn’t a troll man, it was an honest assessment of your post and a response to YOUR poor attitude when you didn’t like the feedback you received.

That’s super cool that you’re a bridge and tunnel contractor. Again I’m super proud of you! Maybe see if there’s any Father’s Day sales going on today or coming up for the 4th of July at any of the many online retailers. Ask someone from the California 4WD association if they can help you do the install? See if there’s a shade tree or mobile mechanic that can come do the work for you as they have less overhead and could possibly be cheaper. Post on any of the many FB classifieds and off road groups that are probably in your area.

 

One thing I could add is to cross post this in the local CA thread. You'll definitely get people closer to you who might more likely know a local shop and/or folks having a mod day that can help you do wrenching, be it this or other smaller stuff down the road.

You definitely fit the stereotype " if it wouldn't sound snarky or someone with a superiority complex! You don't know anything about me or my circumstances but you decided on your own to take the low road with that response. I appreciate the follow-up but you still haven't offered any advice regarding the quote from 4WP or whether I need all of those parts to achieve what I want to go off-roading with bigger tires or to achieve the clearance I am looking for. Have you tired using the search function here? Or maybe even Google? This topic has been discussed thousands of times here. Be nicer to people and maybe they will help. Your attitude sucks.

I have offered you plenty of advice as have other people on here, you aren’t absorbing it.

You don’t need any parts to go off roading or to fit bigger tires (skinny “33) lifting doesn’t help tires fit, it gives the body of your truck more clearance and better angles. If you want “35’s or larger you will need to do a fair bit more than lift. Since you can “more than afford” the install where/how exactly are you trying to save money other than sales? The basics for a decent lift are as follows. Shocks/springs, add a leaf or leaf pack, UCA’s if you want/need, needle bushing (optional but recommended) you can add or take away from this as much as you want. Pick a setup you like at a price point that works for you and go for it! There’s loads of threads on here regarding lifts. I’m confused by how you keep saying you have so much money but then in the same breath you don’t want to spend it. Look into Bilstein, Ironman and Old man Emu for more economical lift options. King, Fox, Icon as well as others for more high end. Labor tends to be $100-200 hr here in Colorado, usually $150. Might be more in Cali. I’ve never been to a 4WP but they don’t seem to come highly recommended on here. Good luck I’m out!
