I can see that working out. Although knowing me, I’ll probably buy two liters since it’s on sale. I’ll see if my dad wants to also change his T case oil in his 97 tacoma (if it uses the same oil) and give him the rest. Knock out two at once.

Ring gears and pinions are mated together long before they're put in a vehicle, I use to do it for a living at Dana Corporation.

Sure the gears are set up before the 3rd member is installed at the factory, but they haven’t truly mated until after a certain number of miles. I’ve re-geared several vehicles, there is always a break in procedure. I think maybe you’re just referring to “mating” as the setup, doing the paint footprint, setting backlash, etc… I’m referring to mating as the gears actually wearing themselves into each other, under load, to the point metal is no longer falling off of them in any significant amount.

Talking of boots, I had a pair of Danners for over thirty years, resoled once, hard hunting they did, finally replaced them with another pair from Danner.

I used Redline 75w-85 for my Diffs @ 35k I think. I used Ravenol for my tcasewhich has an awesome fill straw. I live in the Midwest and I have had zero issues in 4wd in the negative Temps. It's been two winters since I've changed the fluids. Excellent performance.

Also put 12 ish qts of Redline in the tranny with Drain and fills. Trans Temps way better when towing.

Thanks man. I've moved since then, out of the garage and into the basement. I'd say I'm moving up but directionally speaking it was down.

I have 2016 and early on there were reports of factory under fill and needing top off. Mine was fine. Curious if that continued?

Did you only use one bottle for the tacoma with ravenol? If so, did you get any overflow coming out? I did one bottle and didnt get any overflow coming out, so im wondering if i need to top it off.

I had a half full bottle of Ravenol left over from another vehicle. So after I put a new full bottle in, I remember going to the half bottle and pumped it 1 or 2 times and it started overflowing. So I probably wouldn’t worry about it, you are very close (I think the capacity is like 1.1 quarts). If anything, I’d just stick your pinky in the fill hole and bend it downward to make sure you get some gear oil on it. If it’s within a 1/2” to the top, I personally would not spend the money on another bottle of Ravenol. If it was more than 1/2” low, I’d probably top it off with any gear oil and send it.

I see. I did put my finger in there and i was able to feel the oil, but couldnt quite see it while looking into the fill hole. I think it should be ok too. I really didnt want to buy another liter with it being about $40 with shipping haha.

If you were closer, I’d top it off for ya with the almost 1/2 bottle I still have, haha. I’m sure you’re fine if you felt the oil with your finger. And the Ravenol is a liter, so it’s a little over a quart anyway.
