So I have a TRD 2010 tacoma double cab with hitch connections and a power outlet on the bed. After 13 years my alternator gave out. Besides OEM (OEM is remagnufactured) in my opinion not worth the price. What other after market brand is good. I was looking at Bosch and Duralast from autozone. Any tips??

Denso is ideal, as they are an OEM for Toyota.

Make sure to get the 130 amp w/ towing package.

All remans are basically the same in my opinion, so just make sure to get one with warranty you can keep in the glove box.

Make sure to change the belt if its never been done before!

    This 100%

Just search TacomaWorld, there’s been multiple people buy aftermarket and have them fail quick.
@Bishop84 have you used any of the factory remans?
Are they any better than aftermarket remans?

I prefer factory remans simply due to higher QC checks.

Cheap no-name alternators have the craziest issues that are random, like incorrect threads, missing threads, seized pullies etc.

That said I would only put a denso on pretty much any Toyota. Value and quality are balanced with them.

I just replaced alternator with a Denso remanufactured 130amp.

works great. Easy to remove and replace.

Yeah, I see Toyota offers remans, just wasn’t sure if they were “better”?
They aren’t much cheaper than new.
At least the reman CVs are affordable.

    I agree. Denso only.

I have my eye on one of these when mine finally goes out.(306*** miles on it) there is a thread on here somewhere about them from what I read seem like a good buy.

Just fyi most of the higher amp alts of stock size run smaller pulleys, require a shorter belt, and provide most of the stated amperage at higher rpm. That being said I ran a mechman on my Lexus and it worked out really well because that vehicle had so many electronics from factory in addition to the gear I added to it.

That OEM reman is what I would be using. If not second choice would be a Denso reman

This thread got me thinking about how much more alternators and batteries have to perform now these days with all the electronics incorporated into our vehicles.

My truck is so basic (not even powder door locks or windows), that my alternator will likely out last the truck!

I hope you get it worked out which one you want to use. Let us know if there are any issues!

The autozone lifetime warranty isn’t what you might expect. You probably think it means the part is warrantied for life or until you no longer own the vehicle. What it actually means is you’ll be changing the part 3 or 4 times a year for the rest of your life or you no longer own the vehicle or get smart and put in a good part. That was my last experience with them, which included a screaming match 1/4” from his nose.
