Why 285’s? A lot more risk of issues without really any advantages over what you have now…not to mention trimming, etc. Function over form

    Love the camper!

Have you ran into any issues off road and on the pavement running the 255/75/17s with stock suspension.

For example: Rubbing on Turns, Inclines, or when going over obstacles?

Just installed king suspension, cut the front bumper, fender liners, and did a CMC. The truck really needs a bigger tire with the amount of lift I have now, and why not go 34’s since I did all that work?

thanks for the info. I'm on KO2s now and was thinking of staying with them, but the yoko's are the same weight--tempting.

its your truck…do what you want.

34’s will drastically affect performance unless you are re-geared and tuned. Unless you offroad a lot, 34’s aren’t going to do much for you beyond a 32. Function over form.

A simple solution would be less lift :D
1.5-2” is ideal for these trucks for ride quality and performance for most people

Honestly, the yoko’s out perform the KO2’s in every way besides fuel economy and noise. And both of those are very minor differences from my personal experience.
Hope that helps some with your decision.

I’m sitting here about to buy 4 new Duratracs in the 4-ply for my little 2.7. Man I just love the look of the mud tires though. Those Yokes are also 4 dollars cheaper per tire, lol… The Duratracs weigh 43lbs each and the Yokes are listed at 49. I may just get the Yokes.

Not gonna lie, I have been eyeballing the Cooper STT Pro only because of the raised white letters but it may be to much for my power coated FJ steelies…. I am not sure…

Time to find the photoshop thread, hahahaha

I do have a new 255 Duratrac on my spare FJ wheel under the Taco….

Also back in the day of 16” wheels I had a single 255/85R16 Dis ST and it looked SO good on the truck but that tire was discontinued way back!

Thanks for the compliment on the camper!
    I’ve enjoyed having it.

I haven’t had any rubbing or issues at all with these. I’m not sure that I’ve had them fully locked and stuffed, but I think this is a pretty safe size to not have any rubbing. Especially with these wheels since the offset pushes these out a little more than the stock off-road wheels.

Eibach stage one in 2nd notch with OME dakar medium pack. Decided to stay with KO2s. Came from 265 70 17–will align it after putting on UCAs. Gas mileage took a hit (per the computer)—lot more rubber on these than the ones I took off. 9FB1CB03-84E2-4EDE-8762-2B0830626948.jpg

I bit the bullet and went Duratrac and am pretty glad I did.
Scored 0% financing and all so I’ll pay em off fast.

Already gained 1 whole MPG… Hoping to make it 2 with the next tank, lol…
Best was 18mpg with the old 255 KO Rubicon take offs. 6-ply and heavier.

    2015 AC 2.7 5-spd 4x4, about 1.5” lift.

I was happy enough with my last set of duratracs that I just replaced them with the same. Got 45k out of mine and they're still have 7/32. I put them on marketplace and hopefully someone will take them. Should go a while longer. They definitely did get louder in the last 5,000 miles. Also, they wore very evenly, rotating every 5,000.

Been running 255/75/17's since about 2014. I have Continental Terrain Contact AT's on 3rd Gen TRD Pro Fox suspension which yields me +2" in front. I also have Hellwig helpers on the rear for towing my boat. 20221220_115409.jpg 20221220_115331.jpg 20180212_145621.jpg 20221220_115436.jpg

After much debate, reading through this thread, and weighing pos/neg's, I decided on going with a 255/75 setup with Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme tires mounted on 17-inch Gloss Gunmetal SEMA wheels. I couldn't be happier.

Figured I’d post my update here, as I got a lot of good pictures to peruse from this thread before pulling the trigger.

No lift, 255/75R17 Toyo OC AT3s on SCS wheels:

    IMG_7473.jpg IMG_7504.jpg IMG_7522.jpg IMG_7461.jpg

Only found a little rubbing on the very inside edge of the trim that’s under the mud flaps. Trimmed it and it doesn’t rub on the road. Flexed it decently for some off roading and it still touches slightly now and again (when turning only) so a touch more trimming and it’ll be perfect.

Got the same tires 2 weeks ago. Put them on stock Sport rims, no rub at all even with mud flaps, there is actually quite a bit of clearance still. Only know of you, me, and one other guy on here running the 255/75 Toyos. Really liking them so far, good traction in all conditions, noise is not bad and they handle and ride well.

Make sure you keep them around 35-37 psi cold. They aren’t supposed to be lower than that and they were super squirrelly at 40 psi cold (42 psi after warming up is where it got real bad, following grooves and not having much braking traction). I’ll add a few photos as well for the thread.
