Same thing here as well, you aren't getting any food delivered except for maybe Pizza. Always amazes me at all the places that deliver food to where I work being in a densely populated area. To think I almost bought a house 10 minutes from there. Shoulda just went for it...

Don't get me wrong, I like living in the country, but I far more used to town life. Now, I'm not one of those people who moved to the country and complained about the smells and sights that go along with the area. But, I do miss out on some of the services living closer to town provide.

Do you have broadband where you are?

I run with my windows down most of the time too, even off the dirt roads it is surprising how much dust accumulates -- so fast...

Only reason is I'm on a road where the lines run town to town. If not, I woulda been stuck with crappy internet. I've got 1gb internet luckily... :anonymous:

I have an ancient DSL line and am thankful for it.

    Today:
    Ping - 194 ms
    Down - 9.93 Mbps
    Up - 0.64 Mbps

    206.47 Mbps (paying for 250)
    23.67 Mbps (paying for 25)

My wife is streaming something on Hulu, one kid is on the PS4, another on the XBox, not sure what the niece is doing. Not complaining.

The internet connection we had before this one was 1.5 Mbps. And they never came back to bury the line that ran all the way around the house (about 300') so I cut it. I couldn't ditch that one fast enough.

Our tech here is two Chromebooks .

The DSL works and is $55/month.
The little rural phone company here is really good too, when you call them they answer the phone and genuinely try to help, good folks.

i don't even know what i have through comcast. after hearing about everyone else getting jerked around on surprise rate increases, i think they forgot about me. which is fine. as long as the service works, i don't want to poke my head up!

    i think i'm paying for 60mb-p/s down/5mb-p/s up
    google says i'm at:
    89.3mb-p/s down
    11.7mb-p/s up

it's really more than fast enough for me, as long as my roku keeps working!

Ouch. That’s triggering some painful flashbacks…. I had DSL that never got to those speeds despite the advertised 20 Mbps down. Forget about uploads.

It all turned around with Starlink. Equipment was a bit steep ($600) but the monthly service is $90. The town’s supposed to get fiber at some pont. We’ll see how that goes.

Happy Monday everyone :hattip: Another weekend disappearing before it seemed to start.

Happy Juneteenth if you’re so inclined.

Starlink is good but has plenty of limitations as well. The newer units have a proprietary cord that limits the distance between base and receiver. The direction - clear sky and “noise obstacles”. Good download, but often similar upload to cellular options. Non portability (actually monitored/controlled).
I use these in a drop-in or emergency response function, so some of these don’t apply… but it’s a mixed bag. Do your homework and you won’t be disappointed. In your case it sounds like the right choice.

I’ve had it for a bit over a year and a half. I know the limitations for my location quite well at this point .

It’ll do until fiber gets to my town. Hopefully it won’t be priced outrageously.

Oh yea, meant to comment that I had DSL when it was first offered as 1.5M/256K and I had to install the NID myself, because AT&T wasn’t yet trained for field deployment. That HUGE Alcatel modem… LOL. It was comparable with ISDN pricing and cheaper than T1… no brainer there.

Star Link still no service here yet .

Is it like other satellite internet storms and not having a good line of sight cause a no signal condition.

Most likely I would need to cut far to many trees .

I need to reach at least 30' maybe more to get outside with the receiver.

Good morning guys, it’s Monday again…

AT&T has been switching everyone over to fiber in my area. The FO runs all the way into the house to their router. They didn’t jack the rates either surprisingly, internet and the landline my wife wants is $100 month

That's a good deal on fiber internet imo. I pay $100 a month for fiber itself.

edit: That's a promo deal for 2 yrs. Then it goes up to $130 I think. Only game in town that offers fiber in my neighborhood. Starlink is looking more and more appealing...

I don’t remember them saying it was a promo but that wouldn’t surprise me.
