    A 4WD PreRunner wouldn't be a PreRunner.

I don’t know why Toyota can’t just build a Tacoma that will tow like a 1 ton dually, accelerate like a Tesla model S, have no new modern crap that will only break but also be not be stale and boring, get 40mpg but also be lifted with 35s and no air dam or turbo hybrid voodoo engine.

Sure wouldn't, it would be 4wd SR, SR5, or OR. The Prerunner isn't a Prerunner it's a Rwd Tacoma with a rear locker.

As Andre on TFL found out, the new Colorado doesn't offer cruise control on the base models. Having gone from a GMC Sierra to a Tacoma, I can say reliability was a big factor for me as was the option of a manual transmission. I've had two GMC pickups and come from a GM family. They're great vehicles for about 100k miles. After that, be prepared to spend a lot of money on repairs. I'm more confident in my Tacoma than I was in my GMC Sierras even though I really liked both of them.

They do, 35s would definitely kill the mileage though. Not sure what the dealer did for my 30K service, my mileage went from 18 to 20-21. Running 32s which I think look great on an AC. Don’t really like lifts anymore, but some trucks need it.

Don’t worried about garages. I don’t need much as far as options go, built a Tundra SR DC6.5’ for $43K on the Toyota site, does come with the lesser power engine, certain that can fixed with a tune. Don’t think you can get a Tacoma SR5 for that.

Need at least a 6’ bed for the stuff I carry, use the heck of the bed almost on a daily basis.

Drove my buddies F150 5.0 last night for 3 hours pulling a 6X12 enclosed trailer, sure did like that V8, size felt just a smidge bigger than my Tacoma. Didn’t really like the ergonomics though, when I jumped back in the Tacoma felt more at home, fits me better. Funny thing is he wants a Tundra because more parts are sourced in the US than Fords now apparently.

Crawled all over Tundras for 3 hours when my Taco was in for service, the ergonomics feel more like my Tacoma.

After driving the Ford, Toyota may still keep me as a customer. Might be a Tundra though.

As they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, like the Chevy better. Dig that all black front end on the trail boss. They tar and chip here, plus I run down Forest Service roads all the time, will take more of a beating.

GM is off the list since they don’t offer a 6’ bed anymore.

Yeah that was the nice thing, even my lowly SR came with cruise, adaptive at that. Way more options on my 3rd than my 1G TRD has, except a locker. Traction control works well enough.

Depends on who ask, my Father-in-Law is a GM guy who travels back and forth across the country. He gets 300K out of his before he sells them. Says he just does brakes and that is it. He could be bullshitting too.

Have a long list of repairs of all the Toyotas I have owned, trust nothing at this point.

On the 2024 GX front, I just learned that it's going to be significantly larger than the current gen, almost at the level of the Sequoia. If that's true, it'll be too big for me.

Actually the term “Prerunner” is from desert racing for prerunning the course, 4WD prerunners certainly exist. Toyota derived its Tacoma model name from that. Why they chose that name is idiotic, because it can’t be any further from the real thing. Just call it a utility truck.

Know you like to give Bat a hard time, have read some of his tech posts, he knows his shit.

I think the Chevy and GMC are really great trucks. I'm probably a little bitter at GM because they pasted the iconic Blazer name on a good but boring crossover. My dad had two K5 Blazers. GM missed a huge opportunity. I'm not a Ford fan, but you have to hand it to them regarding bringing back the Bronco as a real offroad capable SUV, not some generic crossover. Also, GM is cancelling the Camaro whereas Ford is continuing the Mustang. I really think GM has lost it's mojo in a lot of ways. They seem to have had so many self-inflicted wounds of late.

Modern Tacoma Pre-Runners have been 2wd only from my understanding.

They have, but where they got the name from is prerunning desert race courses. Why they chose that name is just marketing, because when it was introduced desert themed trucks were all the rage at the time. Now it is overlanding themed nonsense.

They should call it the “WorkMate” like what HiLuxes are called. And give it a proper tray back bed. Believe they have a 2WD Hirider model. They also offer 4WD WorkMates too. Why they don’t do that here is beyond me…well I know why, our trucks are more for lifestyle than working.

That's nice. He was referring to current pre runners though.

I know! Love those Aussie utes.

They could still call it a Prerunner 4WD, offer two versions. I personally lean more towards a utility oriented vehicle, but also need 4WD. Should just drop the Prerunner name altogether. Moronic that they brought it back. Some of the stuff Toyota does I love, other things not so much. Like the loss of the AC and the name Prerunner.

Yeah…why they put the Blazer name on a CUV is laughable. Could have just tossed a retro body on the Tahoe.

Coworker just bought a Bronco, hoot to drive. Imagine the 4th Gen Taco will be just as fun with the turbo four.

GM has certainly lost their way in certain areas. The ZR2s are nice, awesome you can get the 2500 in that trim.

I'm hearing that the Tacoma is expecting the same mpg numbers as the Hybrid Grand Highlander at 37/34/36. If so then I'm sold and some. Turbo and hybrid. Electric vehicles are for people with a brain short!

My 23 KIA Soul GT Line gets 27-28 with me driving, my 02 Tacoma gets a best of 18, so 34 sounds like a dream.
