Who does your oil changes?

I have always changed my own oil in my other vehicles, but take my Tacoma to the dealership. Not to steal the topic, but I have a question. The dealership where I bought my truck had a special going on for free tires for life if you get your car serviced there. The shop manager said that I can get up to $1000 for tires every 25,000 miles if i get my truck serviced at the dealership. He said that I could get whatever tires I want It cost $60 just for the oil change. So i figure that it will save me money in the long run to get my truck serviced there. I'm sure that they will try to sneak out of it for some reason when it comes time for my tires though. What do you guys think?

 

Get it in writing and you are fine....

x2, and my dad took his 2008 dodge cummins turbo diesel to the local "jiffy lube type place" and they didn't remove the old gasket when they installed the new filter, and caused it to leak 1.5 gallons of oil over night, since then i have changed mine myself.

 

I do it myself. My first oil change at 1300 miles took about 1.5 hours or so because I was taking my time and reviewing oil change threads to make sure I got it right. At 5000 miles it took a little less time, now every 5k it takes me a 1/2 hour and I'm doing it slow.

I pay around $30 for a Mobil 1 oil change and I know it's done correctly, or I can let Jiffy do it and pay a lot more for their synthetic (around $80).

I take the wife's Durango to Oil Stop, they have done a good job on all of her cars.

I average about 2500-3500 miles a month so I'm always changing oil.

 

some people might have the pamphlet that came with buying the new truck for free oil changes up to 30k miles, i know i use mine

Do it myself. Have new 2011 with 5 free oil changes. My son used to work for Chrysler, Chevy, and Toyota and he did them for me, but he is out of State. He had stories and I do not trust the dealerships. Changing oil is easy and cheaper to DIY, compared to other involved maintenance.

I did my first oil change today at only 310 miles and was surprised that my original OEM oil was already getting that dark & nasty ...
The oil always looks worse (and darker & nastier) in the drain pan than on the oil dipstick.


Removed original OEM Toyota dino oil & filter ... and replaced it with Mobile 1 oil and filter ...

I just did mine for the first time yesterday,it is the easiest one i have ever done.

 

Got one free oil change from the stealership but besides that all done by myself

 

myself.....so simple and it saves 30 bucks

 

Yes do it myself. So easy with a 6" lift.

 

After getting home from the "Jack & Lube" and having to tighten the oil filter to stop the oil from dripping from the gasket, I do my own. Never had a problem since.
When you take it in for a lube job YOU get the lube job.
