I don't know where you keep hearing that, but it looks as if the Hybrid Tacoma was designed with a power boost in mind not MPG.

Yeah if you’re constantly towing, diesel is for sure the way to go. If you doing commercial, no brainer.

Drove my buddy’s F150 5.0 last night for 3 hours on the interstate, he had it in tow haul mode, which does great for shifting, but that thing was doing 3500 rpm at 75. Pulling a 6X12, don’t really think he needed tow haul mode, believe he likes the sound of his Flow Masters…they starting to annoy me. Glad to jump back in my quiet Tacoma.

The larger diesel motors get great cruising economy, too. However, they’re not standard options on those trucks :(

come on, it’s a light duty truck with a higher payload than most Tacomas. Truck =/= an off-roader only.

That’s a front wheel drive mini truck though.

Still a truck..."There’s no effing way any truck is getting 37 mpg."

What would rear wheel drive do for it besides loose traction on snow?

Sorry. It’s not a real truck. Was the Subaru Baja a truck?

I used to battle with if it is a “real truck” or not and then decided, if it has an open bed it is a truck.

The H2 SUT (sport utility truck) was a truck, fairly heavy duty one…about a useless bed though.

Best 50 in my 1500 Duramax is 34.6 along the Ohio River in WV with an empty bed. Close enough for me.

Yep! All trucks, now whether they are useful or not is up to the person. Have used or knew someone with just about all those to haul something.

We had one of those 6X6 Polaris ATV things for doing light work around the property. My dad was handicapped, used a cherry picker to get him on it…the CVT trans was great for getting him around. Used to joke it was a wheelchair on steroids. Annnnnd still a truck, even had a dump bed!

For like the 10th time in this thread.... That is for a 2.5l non turbo 4cyl hybrid. Not the 2.4l turbo that's in the Tacoma. The 2.5l hybrid is purely for efficiency and not offered on the Tacoma. I believe it is a completely different hybrid system all together.

The grand Highlander hybrid max gets 26/27. It does have the 2.4l engine with a hybrid system. But it doesn't make as much torque as the one in the Tacoma. 362hp 400ftlbs

The 2024 Tacoma I force max hybrid is suppose to make 326hp 465ftlbs

Haha! Hate to break it to ya, we are all crazy in here. Why else the constant banter about nonsense? Beat just about everything and anything to death, over and over…:D

Ford Ranchero hauls dirt bikes better than a Tacom DCSB, rear wheel doesn’t even ride on the tailgate.

The rear tire isn't on the tailgate of the Ranchero, but it looks like the rear tire in the way of closing the tailgate, so not much benefit over the SB. I haul dirt bikes all the time, and after measuring my garage, I will have to deal with a DCLB. Not optimal, but really no difference when hauling dirt bikes if the tailgate does not latch. Hauling other stuff, yes, dirt bikes, not so much of a big deal. The loss of space in the bed can be made up with gear going in the rear of the DC, vs a access cab.

We're never going to see another Diesel Tacoma or any other Toyota Diesel in the U.S. Except for a few hardcore Toyota cultists, nobody wants one: They are slow, they still stink (and so do you when you don't pay attention and screw up refueling the tank and it spills all over the place) They would have ridiculous "multi-thousand" dealer mark-up" stickers" hidden on the windshield. (or in the glove compartment) Maybe sell one to the "Top Gear" guys to try and destroy, (they failed....was that thing a Diesel?) then it's over. But they last for 300 thousand miles! So does the 2.7L 4-banger..... and the 4.0L V6. Diesel automotive options were spawned by the '70s oil crisis when the gas prices went crazy. Google current Diesel prices. They're beyond crazy now. +- $5 per gal where I am. (plus that $15.00/qt diesel fuel fog emissions eliminator additive thingy no one knows what it is )

    RIP oil burner.

My point was if it has an open bed it can do truck stuff. BOF, Uni-Body, 2WD, 4WD, FWD, AWD, raised, lowered, doesn’t matter. It can haul mulch, dirt bikes, golf clubs, groceries, or nothing. Open bed no matter the size big or small is still a Truck, or Ute, or Bakkie, depending where you’re from in the world.
