Stumbled across this little YT comparison video...

After more than three months (and plenty of money "invested" in our Taco :spending:), I have to say that the OTT tune is still the best money I've spent to date.

To be fair, that is comparing OTT to KDMax 6.0.

Do you have to pay for the updates for the KDMax tune?

He says so in the video and says that KDMax is at v9.0 now, so not apples-to-apples.

I have no experience with KDMax either. Just thought it was interesting, especially since his positive experience was the same as mine with OTT.

Looks like it depends on how you get the update done. If you have VF Tuner, no.

Well it is EVERYTHING they said it would be, I’m almost in disbelief. Just had my truck tuned a couple of hours ago, and drove an hour and 30 minutes home, in an absolutely different truck. I’m blown away. Finally, the truck DOES NOT hunt for gears. NickJacq23 was kind enough to meet me at the halfway point to tune my truck this morning and I couldn’t say enough nice things about him or this tune. I went with the medium/spicy Settings and the truck isn’t jerky like people say it is but once you get on that throttle, it’s definitely a different animal. This absolutely should’ve been done along time ago.

That's great to hear. It's like driving a totally different truck. Almost like you got a new one.

Wow! Just got a tune from @PNWTacoma (Paul from PNW Tuning) and am loving it for the few miles I've driven it. I got lite/mild and I cannot believe the change. Driving around the neighborhood & highway is so much smoother.

I had the OTT 9.0 installed about a month ago. My truck is a 2021 TRD off-road with a 2 3/4" lift and 285/70/17's. It's also a MT. MT owners, obviously, don't have any shift problems like the Auto guys do and I am no exception. The 3.5 sure has weaknesses, but with the MT I'm for the most part able to work around them. I was interested in the OTT tune a year and a half ago but the nearest tuner was around 6hrs from me. I put it off. A month ago I looked at their website and damned if they had a tuner 9mi from my house. I made the leap. Man am I glad I did. All that torque that happens around 3400rpm was moved down to 2300rpm. There's a lot of torque below 2000rpm that they can't measure on a Dyno. Auto guys can't tell it because it'll downshift. I think there's more torque at the higher rpms too. It'll pull reminiscent of my gen 2 4.0 MT. Outstanding. I was also worried about my MPGS, with the stock tune I was getting 22-23mpgs. I'm happy to report the mpgs stayed the same empty. Pulling my 4000lb camper I picked up 2 mpgs. The torque is very noticeable pulling the camper, before I couldn't pull in 5th gear unless I was going downhill with a tailwind. Now it'll pull it in 5th, going up it. Outstanding. Thanks OTT and my tuner , Cody.

Got the mild/medium installed today, going to have to get used to the throttle response, all you have to do is think about pressing it and you're off.

I had the CVC tune on my 2018 and loved it, everyone says I'll like the OTT more. Whatever prevents the gear hunting at 55mph+ is fine by me!

Don't be afraid to tell your tuner it's too sensitive if you feel it is. We have 5 different settings to suite most needs/desires. If you aren't completely satisfied, PLEASE talk to your tuner and we'll get you taken care of at no cost.

Hello all, don't get on here often but have a question. A bit of background - 2013 Tacoma 4.0 with 4.56 gears and 32" tires. I had an original JustDSM tune from back in 2019 (before OTT - I won't tell you how much it cost back then haha) which was pretty good, but lost it when Toyota did some work on my truck and ditched my tune (and I lent out my HP tuner as well and it got misplaced forever sigh). So tried the KDMaxx tune as I had a local tuner and it was good as well but one day had a hankering for more power so last December installed a supercharger. Supercharger is pretty good, but I'm noticing quite a bit of soot out of the exhaust (white truck turning black just above the tailpipe). It also has quite a bit of lag as when I ran the NA tunes I didn't have to put my foot that far down to get results, but just for clarity when I do put my foot way down now I really do get results!! I am running a slightly smaller pulley as well. I'm using the stock magnusson tune via the bullydog system.

On to the question... anyone have experience with the OTT supercharger tune for a 2nd gen? (sorry, I did some searching but didn't find any 2nd gen with the detail I'm looking for) I believe the magnasson tune is quite rich to protect the engine, but I'm wondering how much power and fuel economy I'm leaving on the table for an overly rich tune. Or am I wasting time thinking about this? I'm not racing the truck, just looking to maximize my supercharger investment but also keep it safe enough to protect the engine at all elevations.

    Your experience please and thanks!

good to know! im gonna get mine tuned on wednesday. I also have a manual, and was thinking there doesnt seem to be as many benefits for the m/t as the a/t, but I like the sound of the torque lower in the rpm range. I have about the same size lift and tires as you and had a noticable power loss afterwards, so im looking forward to it!

Yep, that's exactly what I thought too. That's one of the reasons why I put it off. I kinda thought the auto guys were all that excited because it fixed their shifting problems and with the manual it wouldn't do a whole lot for me. I was wrong. I think it literally takes a manual to see what OTT has really done with the engine torque itself. Knowing what I know now I'd have driven those 6hrs a year and a half ago in a heartbeat.

I had the Magnuson supercharger installed on my Tacoma recently. I am still on the Magnuson tune. Mods on the truck include an airaid snorkel, 2" lift, 33" tires and full skids. I noticed she doesnt really boost unless I'm at WOT. Does the OTT tune change this at all? Also should I wait a certain amount of time before getting another tune?

A tune isn’t going to fundamentally change how a belt driven supercharger is.

The tune can help you get some more power out of the entire setup over most of the RPM range, but boost is directly related to RPM.
