I'd spend the money for a new rubber, but I read somewhere (so many posts that I don't remember where) that the bubble occurs again on a new piece of rubber.

How is your new piece holding up?

My 2021 did it at 12k miles. I only tried the thing once and never used it again after seeing how slow it was and hot that area got. I used one of the spare blanks and installed a dual USB fast charger and problem solved. I’ll deal with the bubble one day, but for now, I just keep a big pack of gum and sun glasses there.

I replaced it over 6 months ago and no issues. I got it from Toyota. OEM. It’s a two part piece, and the rubber can be replaced separately Very easy

Qi charging pad rubber part # 861C4-04010

I used some 3M double sided tape between the pad and the charging/heating element for added measure.

Hopefully, it doesn’t bubble up again. I can see why it would bubble, the rubber pad needs some ventilation holes to vent all the heat that the charger generates.

I never even used it when it bubbled. And I am the original owner.

Agreed…my 19 did it twice, both times replaced under warranty, then did again now out of warranty. Ive just dealt with it, it’s a flawed designed part. As others have said, the charger is useless anyway.

Maybe I’ll pull the power on it if it bubbles up. And just throw mints there. No power should equal no heat

It happens even if you don’t use it. The heat from the transmission tunnel and the fact that there is nowhere for it to dissipate is the cause of the of the bubbling.

The next time you drive the truck for a while, touch the rubber pad and you will see how warm it gets.

This happened on my 2018 as well and I've never used it. I've read somewhere that you can replace the entire cubby with a non-Qi model which gives a deeper pocket.

Is there a video somewhere about how to physically access it to replace, glue, etc?

I also thought of swapping it out for the pocket. But hurts resale

Does it still charge your phone with no issues now that you cut off the rubber?

Can't say I've ever been able to replicate this. Without using it I don't notice any heat beyond the temperature of the other surfaces of my interior.

Furthermore, maybe I've just gotten lucky but I've not had any bubbling issues with my 2017, which was actually built in 2016.

Just be careful what you try, you can get the rubber with the trim oem from Toyota for like 40 bucks
But the electronic part is 700. Just a reminder. As I posted before I did the oem rubber replacement.
    Still going good
