    Hello,
I have a friend who is running the 3.5v6 Automatic engine and he is having troubles towing about 5200 lbs. camper trailer with his Tacoma, he has to drive in sport shift and no higher than 4th gear and this is highway driving.
it is a 2019 Tacoma SR5 with the tow package in it,

He said it seems like the vehicle has no power. what advice do you have for him?
he said he is in overdrive all the time and in normal mode the pedal is to the floor, he cant even get the truck up to 65 in 5th gear, He is driving in sport mode in 4th gear to stray with the traffic. rpm range is about 3000 rpm

After sitting on the bench in my garage for months, I finally got around to getting my CBI Covert bumper installed. 2 day project, but I work slowly so most could probably get it done quicker. Install instructions for both the bumper and the SDHQ control box relocation kit were solid. Only extra item was moving the intercooler pump over to make room, which was way easier than I thought it would be. Thankfully I didn’t need to disconnect/alter hoses.

I haven't towed with my Taco but I have a fair amount of towing experience. First, I wouldn't hesitate to tow a 5,200-pound trailer with her but there would be a few things to keep in mind.
    1. This isn't a torquey engine so it'd be in the higher RPM range (ECT button engaged).
    2. I wouldn't exceed 65 with a trailer that's heavier than this truck, nor would I recommend it.
    3. My advice would be to slow down and be patient with the setup. Safety first.
    4. And keep a safe stopping distance.

    I don't tow and I have a 4cyl. That being said.

Make sure the trailer in tow doesn't have some sort of brake partially engaged.

ECT is your friend, use it when towing at highway speed.

Don't expect to get into 6th gear especially if your going on any sort of incline.

Make sure your tires are properly inflated for the load you are towing. I'd imagine lugging a 5200 lb trailer might require a few extra lbs of air pressure as opposed to daily driving with no load.

Finished building out the drawer systems. Nothing was the right size, or the right price. Couldn't find anyone local (cabinet shops or otherwise) that wanted the work.

Circular saw, a Kreg Accu Cut Guide, lots of screws, some Raptor liner, turned out nearly perfect. SO MUCH WORK if you have OCD though.

Full post coming in a week or so once I get all this sawdust out of EVERYTHING. :D

Pretty sure the manual says 4th gear for towing. Use S4 with ECT on. Can try S5 but if it continually shifts from 5-4 and 4-5 then keep it in S4. The fastest way to ruin an automatic transmission is to tow in overdrive. Towing on flat roads with cruise over 50 mph then 5 should be ok. Sounds like someone needs to regear the truck. Anything over 4:30 gears would be helpful.

TRD emblems, tinted windows, OEM running boards, AVS vent shades, RMAS upgrade, LED lights in front and rear, interior LED lighting upgrade, LED lighting in bed, touch control dash mount for LED lighting, auxillary 12v and USB jacks in bed, replace all speakers with Infinity, custom mod with Bose tweeters, TRD Pro illumination mod...
Get a "tune" done. This is a game changer, especially when towing stuff.

I have only towed once with my Tacoma SR V6 -Auto, but my truck is not even a month old. I went and picked a Mini Cooper Convertible I bought and brought it home. I rented a Uhaul car trailer in the city closest to the car, and got the car picked up, then drove some 300 miles back home from NW Louisiana to Southern Texas. Combining the weight of the trailer @2210, and the car itself @2700, for a total of 4910 lbs. There was slight hills in some areas, but I basically cruised at 65 all the way back and had no issues. My truck is OTT tuned with the "mild" as normal mode. I was however using ECT mode. Acceleration was still good to me and never once had to floor it to get it to accelerate. I didn't note the exact rpm I was cruising at holding 65mph, but I know it was hovering around 2300 a lot. I did notice gear changes going uphill, but they were not a big deal. It was a simple downshift, and rpm's rose about 500 or so, and the truck held it's speed. With your friend's truck, what kind of camper is it? Remember if it's a normal type camper trailer with a normal height, then that can act as a huge air-brake of sorts when towing. I still can't imagine having to floor it to accelerate, your friend might want to get his truck looked at. Maybe someone else with a factory tune and camper trailer can chime in here.

I will NEVER buy another Ford or Chevy. Had a 87 frontier running good with 365k miles that was stolen. My 09 frontier has 350+k miles, looks a little rough but still runs (work truck) I was in the market for a new truck and thought I would try a Tacoma. Best truck I've owned. But I will add that the Frontier seats are WAY more comfortable. Toyota needs to step up on the comfort.

Installed some medium sumosprings before a weekend at the race track. Towed so much better and the sag is noticeably better both just with a RTT on top and while fully loaded with my car.

The problem is corporations have changed to only shareholder value being a priority instead of any priority to their employees like it used to be. Take care of your employees and they will bring you increased profit and high quality goods/services. Johnson & Johnson has it right:

We believe our first responsibility is to the patients, doctors and nurses, to mothers and fathers and all others who use our products and services. In meeting their needs everything we do must be of high quality. We must constantly strive to provide value, reduce our costs and maintain reasonable prices. Customers' orders must be serviced promptly and accurately. Our business partners must have an opportunity to make a fair profit.

We are responsible to our employees who work with us throughout the world. We must provide an inclusive work environment where each person must be considered as an individual. We must respect their diversity and dignity and recognize their merit. They must have a sense of security, fulfillment and purpose in their jobs. Compensation must be fair and adequate and working conditions clean, orderly and safe. We must support the health and well-being of our employees and help them fulfill their family and other personal responsibilities. Employees must feel free to make suggestions and complaints. There must be equal opportunity for employment, development and advancement for those qualified. We must provide highly capable leaders and their actions must be just and ethical.

We are responsible to the communities in which we live and work and to the world community as well. We must help people be healthier by supporting better access and care in more places around the world. We must be good citizens — support good works and charities, better health and education, and bear our fair share of taxes. We must maintain in good order the property we are privileged to use, protecting the environment and natural resources.

Our final responsibility is to our stockholders. Business must make a sound profit. We must experiment with new ideas. Research must be carried on, innovative programs developed, investments made for the future and mistakes paid for. New equipment must be purchased, new facilities provided and new products launched. Reserves must be created to provide for adverse times. When we operate according to these principles, the stockholders should realize a fair return.

I finally got her new shoes :D

See attached pics from the day I brought her home to this past weekend when my son and I put her new wheels and tires on. Eventually, I'll list everything somewhere here. I started planning 3 years ago, lol, when you consider the price tag with mods, I'm sure you all get it. I'm upgrading her in 3 phases (with wheels and tires being phase one) where the big ticket items are concerned while doing the smaller stuff along the way. Let me know your thoughts...

Wheels: When I say we deliberated over wheels for MONTHS, not kidding... like 6 months, lol. As far as I'm concerned, there is no single greater mod you can do to bang the WOW factor... I could not accept getting this part wrong. I fkng LOVE these wheels!!
    Stealth Custom Series F5

    17X8.5 with 10MM Offset

    Tires:
    Nitto Ridge Grapplers 265/70R17's
No lift right now... (I have an 80 year old mother who still rides with me, I already have to help her in ) but we did add the 1/4 inch spacers up front to balance her out. So far no rub anywhere but my son still has plans to modify/cut out just to have the extra clearance.
