Oh man, even if I took the Pickup out there and back it would be an epic trip!

Think I could do an IBR on the way back on the Grom though?

I'm more inclined to say yes to that after seeing that video of someone doing it on a Goldwing. :anonymous:

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Who’s gonna roll the TAT on a uni-cycle?

I'll look at the ADV bikes some more, Scrambler would be cool too. My primary need at the moment is something better at eating up highway miles. Have to decide if I want the offroad capability

yup looked and ran pretty solid when I went to check it out so if a rebuild is needed that’s pretty much worst case scenario lol

I’ll do some research and also ask the owner to see if the tuner is even compatible with it, not sure what year they made it workable. I definitely plan to eventually install an upgraded battery too so I can add a radiator fan, gets hot out here in the summer haha. Definitely will be going through everything to make sure it’s as good as can be, and will take to a local guy I know to look it over as well.

That's the beauty of the adventure bikes. They do it all. Sure, a goldwing will do a 1000 mile trip better and a dirt bike will go off-road better, but they both suck at the other's job. The adventures, midsize especially, are the jack of all trades. Nothing is off limits except the extremes. I love the new V-Strom's look, and it appears to be a nice weight/power balance vs the bigger liter bikes. Someday I think I will have that or the T7.

When it comes to buying a used dirt bike, you pretty much have to ignore what the seller says in regards to hours and base your offer on what you can visually see and verify. If you have access to a compression tester, I would ask the seller if you can do a quick test to confirm it is within spec. It only takes a couple of minutes. From your initial inspection, you'll already be spending a few hundred on fork seals, a new chain and counter sprocket (note: interesting that the seller didn't even bother to wash the bike and clean off all of the spiderwebs before he showed it to youl. You'll need to check valves and possibly shim as well. If you can do this work yourself, great. If not, add a couple more hundred to the startup cost. At the end of the day, it's an 8 year old dirt bike. $4k is too much for where I live, but you are in Cali, so there's that.

4k for an EFI bike with low hours is pretty good especially here in CA - though its a red sticker which wouldnt work for me and where I ride in CA, I wont ever own a dirtbike that isnt street legal again - getting mine plated was the best motorcycle decision I have ever done.

I mainly bought my ADV bike to eat up highway miles in comfort, off road will be limited to gravel / fire roads in very limited capacity - and it eats up highway miles SOO easy with its seating position and wind protection. Also you are up pretty tall so you can see out and over most traffic.

Doing a quick search im like 95% sure the GYTR handheld I have will work on the 2015 YZ250F

noted, and solid advice all around. Yeah the CA tax is real…especially for a bike like this in the southern part lol. Year round riding weather with plenty of tracks and riding areas nearby. All the other comparable offerings are much older, much more abused, or much more expensive lol.

hm I’ll have to ask around and see if any of my friends might have one. Never done a compression test though…will have to look into that too. Yeah between the chain/sprockets, front tire, and front forks, there’s definitely some wiggle room to be had on his $4.3k price. Plan is to have it all refreshed and inspected as soon as I have it.

As far as the cobwebs/dirt…I see what you mean but I also see that as them being more trustworthy, rather than them dressing it up to make it look prettier for the sale. I know it usually speaks to how they maintain their vehicles, but I’m also the kind of person who will let the cosmetic stuff fall to the wayside, but ensure anything mechanical is in top condition. Just have to take one look at my truck to see the proof lol

Yup, the red sticker/street legal thing is a fence I've been sitting on for a while now lol. But ultimately I decided that I'd rather have a more capable dirtbike, rather than splitting the difference/compromising. I already have the S1000RR for the street so it's not like I'll gain too much from a street legal dirtbike aside from more comfortable seating position. Red sticker areas are open from October to end of April/May depending on the location, and I don't see too much desert riding happening during summer. There's a few tracks within an hour of me, so those will be the move when trails and OHV areas are closed.

There are some services that do workarounds for the street legal thing...no clue how effective/safe they are to do, but a friend of mine is plating his CRF250X, so we'll see how that goes lol.

And if you're willing to let me borrow the GTYR tuner for a little bit, that would be amazing. supposed to pick up the bike tomorrow but I could probably push it back a day while I wait for the tuner to come in. Never used one before but I'm sure it ain't hard to figure out lol

Seems like a solid deal though...can't remember the last time I saw a stock Grom in good condition under $3k out here lol
