Shit that's right, we were both running 1080 TI's.

Yeah I have no problem running everything at max with my 3080, but your 7900XT will definitely future proof you for awhile to come.

I was toying with the idea of buying a 42" OLED since they normally run for $1k and we have OLED tv's at home....way cheaper than a smaller OLED monitor. Anyway I digress.

Can't wait to hear about it once it arrives.

There is definitely something to be said for gaming on a large screen. For a shooter it's not all that great but for all other genres it's pretty enjoyable. Like racing games are great on a big screen.

The graphics card came with a code you can redeem to receive resident evil 4. I have no desire to play the game and would rather give the code to someone who would use it but unfortunately a part of the redemption process involves a program that verifies that you actually have one of the graphics cards installed involved in the promotion. Feels like such a waste lol

Yep, kinda smart of them. I tried giving away a few games between mine and my wife's AMD cards, and couldn't. I suppose someone else with the same card could make it work, but all my friends run Nvidia cards. I ended up just downloading the games, and then deleting later to make space..

    Yeah.
Yeah, I got a code for The Last of Us with my 6650XT, and that redemption process is pretty silly, lots of back and forth. But hey, free! Although I've already played through it multiple times, PS3, PS4 remastered, but refused to pay for the PS5 remastered remaster.

Well, some mixed results after installing the 7900 XT and gaming on it for a bit today. I was hoping to see some bigger jumps than I got in all the games I already played. Two games were pretty much the same as the 1080 TI which leads me to believe that my 10700k was holding me back in those games although I didn't think that was the case considering it's not super old and it's overclocked. A couple positive notes though: the performance in battlefield 2042 is greatly improved, and after setting a custom fan curve in the AMD software the temps are great. Speaking of temps, my CPU is getting hot as hell. I'm assuming it's a combination of needing a new application of thermal paste and more heat in the case as a result of the new graphics card.

I don't have BF2042 but what other games do you have that show 'minimal' improvement?

I have a 12400F, which would be only a slight improvement but you being able to overclock yours would make that difference moot.

The two so far that I tried and am disappointed with are wreckfest and battlebit remastered. I expected quite the jump because wreckfest is an older game so I figured the brute force of a new card would give me some high frames and then battlebit is like Roblox graphics with battlefield gunplay so I figured the frames would be out of this world since it's not that intensive of a game and they barely changed at all either

    Ah ok.

Was thinking I could fire up a similar game, and seeing as how you have the better GPU than I do, see if the bottleneck was indeed with the CPU.

Then again every game is different.

MS Flight Simulator would be one to test out as that exercises both CPU and GPU.

We actually did a little testing, and it was confusing / frustrating results. I gave my dad my old build so he has an 8700 non k and slower ram than my current computer. We then put the 1080 TI in that build and played those two games. In battlebit his frames were pretty much the same as mine were with the 1080ti 10700k combo but his wreckfest frames actually seemed better than they were when it was in my build and identical or even slightly better than my new graphics card as well.

Older games are going to be CPU bound. That's how things usually work. Make sure resizable BAR is enabled in your MB settings and your MB is on the latest BIOS. This is one feature your 7900XT will take advantage of that the 1080Ti wasn't designed for.

AMD is also dropping a new driver within the next week that's supposed to tweak something for the 7000 series.

Been having fun messing around with case fans recently. Adding fans to places not technically a mount, moving fans to a different position, changing direction of airflow, etc. Fun to see the changes on temp. About to try out the newest configuration tonight with some BF2042.

What Up! I am building an AM5 platform with my wife & son. We have all the parts but our 1440p monitor, ram & gpu purchased.

Probably getting the AMD 6950 xt because it fits our case & we bought our cpu (7900) from Microcenter. They’ll sell it to us for $600. Thus going 1440p & leaving room for the 6950 xt power draw.

Using a brand new Corsair RM850e & Montech X3 mesh case. I’ll give the free case fans a shot, but not the AMD factory cooler. Soooo, the reference card will fit & the case is perfect for my Noctua U12a. I have 3 m2s. Kingston’s KC3000 for a boot drive & 2 Crucial P3+ for everything else.

We went with the ASRock 670 Pro RS mobo from Microcenter. We have high hopes for it. We also bought a new steel series keyboard & mouse. We got that massive free mouse pad/desk pad from Newegg & enjoy it.

Heres the entire build. Will get the final 3 items 1st of the month.

I’ve been gaming with my coworkers lately and finally decided to dust off the VR/MSFS combo today, googled some setting for the VR setup and voilà, anywhere from 30-40 FPS flying low altitude in my city, looks better than it did before and even flying in San Diego it looks good so I’m happy now.
It still blows my mind how realistic the VR MSFS experience is with a yoke, throttle quadrant, and rudder pedals.

So far the experience has been really good with the 7900 XT. Only two minor issues I've seen. One, I started a gaming session I noticed the performance wasn't quite what it should have been so I went into the AMD software and for some reason it chose on its own to put itself into Mobile mode (mimics a mobile GPU in that it takes less power and creates less heat and uses less juice) and two, I have to turn off hardware acceleration when I want to watch Floracing videos in Fullscreen (Floracing is a shit company that I unfortunately have to give my money to because it's the only way to watch a racing series that I love so I'm not surprised that their video player doesn't like a recently released graphics card.)

Well, now I have a very frustrating update. After initially complaining that the uplift in performance wasn't really there for wreckfest. Things have gotten much worse. Now my performance is absolutely abysmal and I'm racking my brain trying to figure out why the performance would all sudden degrade. I have tried each and every single thing I can possibly think of. It performs as expected in benchmarks as well as in other games it is literally just this one game.....

    Yeah.
What exactly are you trying to achieve? The mesh systems from the major brands are all pretty good. Some routers can be added as mesh points to an existing network. And I think Netgear has a phone app you can use to test your signal in various locations. I have a single Asus RT-AX86U, but you can add additional ones as mesh points.

My router is on the east side of my house. House is 1300 sqf. The bedrooms are on the west side of the house and over the garage, with a wood rafter floor. I have a weaker signal in my bedroom for the smart TV and I also want to put a TV in the garage below. I figured if I put an extender/booster in the bedroom it would boost the signal so I can stream better on the TV's.

    Yeah.
Are you using the WiFi router provided by your ISP? If so, does it support WiFi 6? If you are renting it and it is older, get them to upgrade that first.

Wherever you put an extender, it's got to backhaul the traffic to the main router. If your TV gets a weak signal in the bedroom, so will an extender. If you put one there, you may see a stronger WiFi signal between TV and extender, but actual internet speeds would be no different since it is backhauling to the router at the same speed your TV was getting. And, you've added an extra hop so likely would see poorer performance.

Placing an extender somewhere between where you want a better signal and the router is typically a better option, especially if you can situate it so that it avoids any obstructions. You want to balance the strength of signal between all hops.

Pretty much any decent router can be configured as an extender. I am partial to Ubiquiti/AmpliFi products, or the Asus model from my previous post (RT-AX86U).
