I’m with you. I rented a pop-up a few times to see if I liked it. I enjoyed camping and preferred a trailer trailer. I actually bought a new trailer (and Power stroke to match) only to stumble on a vintage trailer show and fell in love with old and smaller trailers. We got our trailer for free. The seller tried to sell it for years and kept lowering the price to free. It had good bones and needed a full resto.

Yes, we are members of VCT too and will be attending Trailerfest in Plymouth, September. It is a great bunch of people and a great time.

That’s great, you can’t beat free! I originally started out looking for a trailer which needed to be restored, but then I stumbled across a decent deal on mine which had been recently updated and was turn-key. That was in ‘13 and since then I’ve done a lot of maintenance and upgraded/modernized the electrical. I won’t add a TV but did install a retro-looking modern car stereo.

I’ve had a lot of great times in my trailer, definitely one of my favorite purchases!

Waited 15 months for this 2022 Casita Independence model. It's pretty nice I guess lots of little quirks, I think Casita is living off their past reputation. Picked it up this past December haven't had a chance to even take it out yet but, the next week or two will take it for its maiden voyage. Added some mods Victron BVM 712 and some Anderson connectors on the house battery.

I loved my RTT setup with the electric lift and turntable. But once a bear ran into our bathroom tent, got spooked and ran through our RTT ladder and almost ripped it off, the wife would not go anymore.

So had to get a camper again.

Casitasolar1.jpg shovel.jpgGetting my equipment ready, ops checked etc.

The cover has been on the Casita for 2 weeks decided with all this wind we are experiencing to take it off, when the wind gets blowing at 20+ it flaps like crazy.

Installed my old metal detecting shovel as a general purpose and primarily for latrine service.

Bluetti AC200max sitting in the bed is being charged via some cables I fabricated (50 foot) so I can camp in the shade and move my panels also this allows me to bypass the PWM controler on the Zamp panels so the MPPT controler on the bluetti can use the panel raw voltage.

And also ops checked the Zamp suitcase panels charging the house battery via the panels onboard PWM controler

Pretty confident Ive got DC covered and limited AC

Ours is from Tiny Camper. It's really simple so it's easy to set up and take down. I get about 11 mpg going 70mph with my setup20230225_184535.jpg

Thread revival as I'm interested in buying a Casita. I was wondering if now that you've taken it out you can overlook the quirks or if they're more glaring than before. Are the quirks you're referring to a lack of innovation or technology or is it something else? Thanks in advance.

Well it's ok ill just say that. For the price point I expected much more. On the 28th of this month I'm driving down to the factory to have an area of gel coat repair done aprox 3"x3".
We picked the Independence model because it has 2 seperate twin bed provisions or you could convert it to one bed. 2 seperate beds allows you partner to have to climb over you.

They changed the onboard refrigerator from a 4.0cuft to a 3.0cuft but didn't say a word the entire 15 months we waited for it. And when I went to take delivery they wouldn't let me do a proper walk around they just wanted to do their rehearsed speach so I would hand them the check and go.
very poor QC, for the money a new one, i'd look for a used a greatly reduced price one. Or even another brand if a fiberglass body travel trailer is what you really want.
The Tacoma pulls it pretty good it only weighs loaded,by my estimate 3600-4000lbs the tacoma carries most of the equipment. Ive actually thought of the Lance line but those are just as pricey.

Casita's hold their value and have a big following. one thing to be aware of with any of these RV / travel trailers is mold. I run a dehumidifier and some damp rid buckets.

It's a wide camper. It really catches the wind. I got 8mpg going across Oklahoma against 40mph headwinds

Just got done with a full revamp of the electrical system in our 2019 Off-Grid Expedition 2.0 to a full Victron Energy setup, including smart shunt, solar controller, Cerbro unit, a compact Multi-charger/inverter and two heated 100Ah BattleBorn LiFePo4 batteries.
After 4 years with this little guy it's completely changed our camping/overlanding game.
It's about 1,800lbs dry minus the batteries and fridge up front, and about 2,500 to 3,200 fully loaded.
In just one year with our Taco we have pulled this little guy thousands of miles to New Mexico, Arkansas, Missouri and Colorado. That doesn't include the 25k prior to that being towed by my JKRU.
100% aluminum welded construction body with 0 wood or fiberglass, fully boxed steel and powder coated frame, queen sized bed, independent suspension w/no full axle to get in the way of clearance, PC, and TV for editing the days 35mm pics, Dometic fridge, 6500 BTU furnace, 35gal of water, 2 burner stove, full sink w/ on demand hot water with shower on the opposite side to the 270 awning and 12v lighting all the way around.

Surprisingly, the Taco pulls the EXP 2.0 with fair ease stock, so am very anxious to get the lift on my truck, for at the moment with 22" or so of ground clearance, the trailer is way more capable off road than the Taco is.
