I wish Toyota would release more details on the title of this thread "4th Gen Tacoma" so we would have more to talk about than the deep debates on what is a truck.

OK. Let’s bring this back to the 4th Gen Tacoma. Is a truck with a little 4 cylinder engine really a “truck”? :D

Actual vintage Suburban ads call it a wagon. Easily searchable. I suppose if you want to go back to the model T era you have a point.

Regardless, the Ford Maverick is a truck.

In NJ most SUV's are designated as "WGN" on our registration. My LC is designated as such.

I can attest that in several states I’ve had SUVs registered as body type: wagon.

I will also say the federal government does discern between the wagon and crossover, and most manufacturers would prefer to call their vehicles SUVs if they want to dodge the gas guzzler tax.

I don’t know. On Ford’s website it shows it in the trucks and vans category. Maybe it’s a van with a bed? o_O

Saw a Maverick all painted up for the FD, lights and all, with a Fire Captain driving it, does that make it a Fire Truck? :p Was going to take a picture, but was driving…figured he would sternly shake his finger at me.

My old Isuzu Trooper was registered as a Sport Wagon.

That is a purpose built race car with a composite body in the shape of a truck.

I don't believe they run composite bodies in the truck series. It's also literally called the "truck series."
