It’s looking like I might have to shut down hunting on my Texas land soon. Too long to fully explain but it’s looking more and more likely that the surrounding property owners are banding together to build a solar farm to the tune of 700+ acres. I’m stuck at joining them and obliterating my family land for the next 35 years (albeit getting paid a decent amount of money annually) or holding out and still likely not having game on my property. It’s a little more complicated than that since I’ve got a close friend living on my land right now but you get the gist..

at this point I think I’m gonna go in with the lease and that might be my ticket to actually buy something up in the piedmont of NC for hunting property and hurricane evac land. It’s a gut wrenching decision that isn’t without harsh consequence on either choice.. but hey, opportunities aren’t meant to be stressed over.

I pulled out my shooting block this weekend. Cleared my 50 yard shooting lane. Then realized it’s hot as hell and went back inside. I’ll hit it in the am or later in the evenings. Cheers

Like I say, never quit, never give up. Tough decision either way. If there’s not much game, look at it as an opportunity for $$ to hunt other species…maybe plains game hunt in Africa. One door closes, another one opens.

Ahh the problem is that there’s a ton of game on my land but selling it will finance open doors for me to not have to drive 22 hours to hunt at least

I’ll get out there this weekend. Season opens August 1st in the south zone. I bitch and moan about the heat every year, but can’t wait for August. Hunting SW Florida is an acquired taste. Can’t wait to see what my first group looks like. Cheers.

I alternate between southern Illinois and the Texas hill country, I understand completely.

    It's not September yet. :anonymous:

I've been trading handguns like a madman for the past few months and I have no idea why. :anonymous:

I've had the same guns for 30 years, most of which I'd probably never shoot again. I've gotten rid of a couple of revolvers (Smith model 657, Ruger GP100) and a Remington 700 .243, and I've gotten:

    Smith 637
    Smith 642
    IWI Masada
    Walther CCP M2

I also traded for a CZ P10C that will be in next week, I think I'm finished trading now.

I kinda wanted some guns that are more shooter friendly, the guns I got rid of have just been sitting for years.

Ouch! You got rid of the .243?!? Love my .243's. Still take them out occasionally during rifle season.

I still have a Remingtin 600 .243, I haven't gone completely crazy! I have no desire to gun hunt again but I believe every mouth breathing American must have a coyote gun at all times. :)

Absolutely love my .243! Its just about the cheapest one ever made, bought from a small town hardware store, back when hardware stores sold guns. It was a christmas gift from my parents, and every deer I've killed using a rifle has been with it.

To stay archery related, I've gotta find a new string and peep sight for my bow. For whatever reason, I can't make the little rubber tube (that straightens the peep at draw) last more than about 6-7 weeks. I end up replacing it 2-3 times every season. It starts splitting at the barb on the peep. Last year I finally got smart and just left a good bit of length on the tag end so I could easily adjust and be back to normal. Sucks to have it split and break off taking a practice shot before walking into the woods, miles and miles away from home where the spare tubing is. Its about time for a new string anyways, so seems like a good time to upgrade to a tubeless peep.
