Automatic Transmission Does Not Shift Correctly

Yes I just got one, is this what they were talking about in that TSB?

When you move the shifter through all the gear ranges , do the lights on the dash correspond to the gear you selected ?
Have you ever seen those lights on the dash go out or do funny things ?

 

Yeah sometimes they don't light up at all unless I shift in and out of gear.

 

I hate to see a guy go through a day of diagnostics just to find out the range sensor is bad .
Your truck is a 2006 .
Have you priced out a new sensor ?
They are not cheap
Anytime the ignition is on , the light on the dash showing what gear you are in should be on .

Post number 23 tells you what to do .
The computer in your truck doesn't know what gear your in .
When this happens , the computer in your truck triggers code p0705 .
That's all the wires from the computer that go down to the range sensor that is bolted to the side of the transmission.

Follow the resistance testing procedures in post 23 to verify the range sensor is faulty or you have a broken wire from the range sensor going up to the computer in your truck

99 percent of the time the range sensor itself is bad , but I am not going to tell you to skip all the diagnostics.
Tacoma world tries to save people money.
We would feel crappy if you spent 300 bucks on a new range sensor and the problem turned out to be a bad ground wire

Gearcruncher is great - but I’m not agreeing that Tacomaworld saves people money. Quite the contrary!!! . Well if you include mods that is. Hope you have luck. Are you sure your vehicle was not in a flood?

 

Not that I'm aware. What would make you ask that ?

 

It’s a know issue. The weather pack in the connection fails.
It lets moisture in and corrodes the contacts.
Flooding has nothing to do with it.

Sure, submerging the switch in water during crossing can up the chances you have issues.
But it’s connector issue.

 

This the switch you are testing.

 

Because of atmospheric rivers and other weather anomalies causing flooding recently which can cause various electrical problems.

Oh poop okay.

 

It’s awkward to test if you’re on your back in the drive way.
It can be done, but your back and abs will hurt the next day.

 

same thing happened to my 2005, same error code...

There's a connector (about 7 pins, idk) on the passenger side of the transmission, pull it apart, squirt in some contact cleaner, then fasten and pull it apart 3 - 4 times. Repeat.

Then you'll be good to go.
