The stories and memories when the station wagon just would not start in those out of the way parking spots .

    long before cell phones.

I am sure I used up all my luck in those days:anonymous:

Both 127.0.0.1 and, in my case 192.168.1.4 will get me there. :)
Absolutely. I've been using it for years and would never go back to handling disks (except once to rip them) again. Watchable on every screen in the house from my phone to the projector and I only need to hit play. Bonus - now that the kid is at college, he has access to everything without having to grab it from me first, and me never getting it back.
I'm not nearly that fancy! Just a drive with them all stored on my desktop in the office.

Put in a bit of effort to get the old wagon running smoother. Had to dig out the tools from the old days

    KIMG3173.jpg

More difficult was remembering how to use them...

    KIMG3174.jpg

In the end the biggest improvement came from a "hillbilly tuneup" -- rev the engine up and hold the choke closed.
I did that about five times and the engine smoothed out and the vacuum gauge gained 3-4". Must have been some gunk in the idle circuit.

The poor Tach and Dwell meter and timing light living in the Tool Box unused all these years.

I can not remember the last time I adjusted points.

I was pretty sure the problem was the carburetor, the points are only a few years old, never hurts to check though. Easy on a Ford V8 too with the distributor right in the front. :)

GM had a nice setup for points, the distributor had a little window that lifted up, you reached in with an Allen wrench and set the dwell with the engine running.

Somewhere in my ''mess O' stuff'' in the garage I have a box full of all my old timing equipment. It has been many years since I used it, even when I did have vehicles with points and condensers, I almost always timed with the ''seat of my pants.''

And then there was the dual point ''I just want to die, please Lord, let this be the last time'' system. Mallory made them.

My first car was a ‘68 Mustang Coupe. Amazingly rusted out by 1980 but that’s not the point of my post. Learned a ton with that vehicle , tune ups, breaks, ujoint replacement, electrical, and lots more. (This was an age where you could bring a tool box to the local junk yard and pull your own parts, again, not the point….)

I went all out for the first tune up. Plugs, points, cap, rotor, condensor and wires. I was surprised as hell that it started and ran smooth! Just before closing the hood, I figured I’d give one last flat palm push to all those new and shiny wires sticking out of the easily accessible, new and shiny cap.

The car was running. It was like getting shocked by a base speaker. A really low and deep, intense numbeness up to my elbow that cleared after a bit.

Like I said, learned alot with that car.

In my defense, I was 15. Current neuroscience theorizes the brain isn’t fully developed by 25, 26 so I give myself a pass for alot of dumb things I did back in the day.

    Good morning everyone :hattip:

    Happy Friday!

As a young’un, I did everything. Tuneups, rebuilds, repairs, replacements…
As an old’un I just went electronic points. SO much easier. Install and forget.
Speaking of forget, I can’t remember the brand…but well worth it.

    EDIT: Pertronix Ignitor
