    Good morning!

My last project motivated me and I'm ready for more!

Is it recommended to change ignition coils and plugs at the same time? Is there a preferred brand? What else should be replaced?

    Thanks in advance!

No need unless there is something wrong with your coil.

just change the plugs and send it

No just change the plugs, the coils are fine. After that , change the fluid in the rear and front differential and transfer case. When you get through with that we will give you something else to do.

Stick to OEM. I think I changed mine at 100k for peace of mind.

Just change the plugs and coil boots if needed and check for oil in the spark plug tubes which would indicate a valve cover gasket leak.

Denso K20HR-U11 is the stock plug number.

Coils are reactive maintenance on Toyota.

Lol.... I will do it! I need to do my brakes as well, so I'll get that done when I do the plugs!

So I just went in to solve a misfire (replaced plug and coil on cylinder 1). Running great now...but there was oil in there. This means I need to replace the valve cover gasket, I suppose??? I'm looking for resources/tutorials on this. Any suggestions??

    It’s pretty straightforward.
If you can do plugs, you do covers.

Only special thing yo need is some RTV for the head/timing/valve cover.
A dap will do. But you have to have it.

Valve cover is pretty simple. Just unbolt the intake manifold and then go around each valve cover and look for all the bolts.

Good time to clean the throttle body and intake manifold.

Oh that's a great resource. Looks pretty straightforward once I'm in there (and it seems I should also replace the spark plug tube seals as well). Issue is getting in there. It seems like I need to remove a lot of the stuff in the way on top of valve cover (air intake and whatnot), and I just want to make sure I don't screw anything up that might be finely tuned, or pressurized or something like that.

Tube seals are part of the valve cover gasket.

You’ll be fine. If you manage to do plugs. The gaskets aren’t going to hold you down.
