    Hey Tacoma World,
I’m trying to wire up my 3rd Brakelight for my RSI Smartcap. But the directions show an access to a through hole in the sheet metal that isn’t there. And the T- adapter connectors for the harness does not fit the existing connectors anybody else have this problem. I’ve contacted RSI and they sent pics that don’t match what I have. 70907073382__E96E9156-97C3-426B-9C3E-C05128575140.jpg70907068554__E673C95A-E7E5-48DE-B269-28E4DD15BED0.jpg

I depinned the connector and ran the wires through the tiny gap under the plastic at the upper rail of the bed, then repinned it once everything was in place. You just need to wedge a small screwdriver or pick in the connector to release the tab on the pins. I don't recall what the connectors looked like, but it plugged right in for me.

Thanks, I’ll be doing the same thing with the connection wires. My problem is the t-connector quick connects don’t match the oem connectors I’m not sure if you can see that in the pics.

Is that bulb side connectors? Mine Tee'd in upstream where the bulb sub-harness connects to the frame harness. I pulled the storage compartment out for easier access to all the wiring and gaps.

If I remember correctly, this is how my harness was laid out (image swiped from an 05-15 Tacoma tail light harness fleabay ad). The tee is that upstream six pin connector. Should be able to follow it back easy enough, and if it's on the other side of the sheet metal you may have to pull the storage bin/cubby-hole liner out to access it easily enough.

The RSI already comes with a plug-and-play T harness, I think he's just not finding the location of the body harness to bulb harness connector to insert it.

that makes sense. The instructions say it’s at the bulb side connectors. But they clearly don’t align. I’ll explore upstream.

thanks! Do you remember what the tab looked like? I found this tab that released down but didn’t free the pins.

You have to remove the white TPA before you can de-pin.

Is popping that tab down the first step? I tried to pull it gently with pliers but didn’t want to break anything. Are there any other releases? Appreciate your help!

For that style of connector a pick tool to hook the tpa is best but sometimes a flat head screwdriver can catch the notch. And tiny needlenose are always good to have. Pulls out the face. Once removed you’ll see the plastic retention tabs holding the terminals in place. If you destroy the connector it’s ok, replacements are available.

Does the rsi not have a dome light? That’s a 2 conductor.

we (some of us) like to go Deutsch flange and drill a hole in the bedside so it can be plugged if the cap is ever removed. But that’s just style points.

I have a low budget hole and some zip ties in my own truck right now. Someday I’ll make mine nice.

That 2-pin is the one you need to de-pin, it's the one that goes between the T-harness and the brake light bar on the SmartCap. It makes running those two wires in the small body gap easier/possible, and it connects to the T-harness down in the taillight well afterward.

@Coach@Ben the harness is already somewhat protected, but you'll want to slide some additional loom/shrinkwrap/tape/whatever over the wires to protect them where they go through that gap to keep them from abrading through and shorting.

thanks, I scoured the internet for videos, but didn’t see a similar connector so wanted to play it safe.

I’m going to drill out the hole that used to hold the tab that was meant to hold the bed rail cap in place. I’m not sure what those are called, but with a cap clamped onto the bed it’s no longer necessary and is almost big enough now.
