For my wife and son, I went with Kershaw and Emerson.

The sidekick is pretty cool. Decent size and can be used like a normal pocket knife.

For an actual multitool its hard to beat the Leatherman Crunch, but its also hard to find

    Those are some nice blades!

have to admit I love watching Forged in Fire and would love to have a try myself sometime. At making a blade not competing!

Yeah the blade is pretty weak on the Skeletool, have broken it twice by using it as it was not intended. Thankful for the lifetime warranty. I have a Wave and Skeletool key chain tool too.

Tge sidekick is a hair too bulky for my edc.

Id love to see that crunch in person.

Its my go to for the dirt bike. The number of times I have helped someone fix a problem quicker than it would take them to get their tools out are countless. Multiple folks have offered to buy it on the spot

Deployment seems a little janky at first, but once you get used to it , it is just as good as vice grips

    IMG_9632.HEIC.jpg IMG_9633.HEIC.jpg IMG_9634.HEIC.jpg

Knife , screwdriver, ect are about the same to open as a standard leatherman

I am more of a Spyderco fan, but the benchmade bugout is an awesome thin and light knife you can get in a variety of colors and blade steel. If you want Benchmade and old school feel I like the Benchmade Proper

Surprised no one mentioned ZT, but Emerson and Kershaw fall under that umbrella. Any of these name brands are excellent for the boys, just gotta find what tickles your fancy

Honestly, the Kershaw Skyline is still one of my all time favorites. I have 3 different versions, I know @prise has a couple.. they are inexpensive so if they lose it or damage them it's not a big deal, they are very thin and lightweight, basic design with a flipper. Love the Skyline.

I have four Skylines...14C28N steel, G10 scales, and like $35...USA made, too. Tough to find nowadays, though...

My Leatherman Skeletool CX...with the better 154CM steel...is always on me.

The Skyline is actually the reason that I mentioned Kershaw in my post, as it's a favorite, but I tend to buy Gerber more often lately for the simplicity, and for the same reason mentioned before; I don't tend to keep them much longer than a couple of years at a time before I get an itch to replace it.

@prise and I went wild with the Skylines years ago and even got each other customs brass and copper Flytanium scales. I have the XL version with copper scales, then OG black g10, and OG raw/jade g10.

I'd love the Damascus version of the skeletool but not at $650!

    That's great! and Thanks.

Put the youngest on a plane this morning headed for Greece. Working in a medical shelter for migrant women. I haven't quite come to terms with how I feel about it. At least she is a productive tax paying youth now. Gotta have at least a couple of those to support me when I get the SS check!

I've had a little bit of everything over the years. Started with mini Swiss army knives. Then Gerber/Kershaw, then dabbled with SOG/CRKT/Benchmade, and now I'm a spyderco dork and I have way too many Montana knife company blades for one person o_O.

If I was buying for a 10-15 year old I'd probably stick with gerber/kershaw for budget. CRKT and Benchmade next for kids that exhibit trustworthiness and appreciation.

I was buying guys I trained at work spyderco Para 3's from bladehq that I'd get custom engraved.

Maybe think about investing in a nice sharpening system and get that maintenance habit going early?
