Yes, Boston MA…however I know plenty of people (including myself) who own cars/trucks for 10+ years without encountering rust issues. The salt is certainly a factor but the design and materials have to be playing a major part?

Earlier 2nd gens had that nasty black coating done to them. IMO all it did was cover stuff up to get it past the warranty period. I traded in my 2009 due (well one of the reasons) to the CRC coating causing severe rust underneath. It was sold in Maryland so it no longer has yearly inspections so I imagine by now it has holes in it...

    Lol.

Toyota does more to support their customers than most manufacturers. Shall I remind you that Hyundai/Kia are still producing vehicles without immobilizes? (hopefully they phased this out after the tiktak “Kia boys”)

Is Toyota perfect? Not by any means. But relatively speaking, they do a much better job than other manufacturers out there.
Speak with your wallet if you disagree.

As for Tacomaworld having a “huge following.” In a small niche market, sure. But there are <500k members on here. Not “active” members. Like 450k 350k accounts created. Since the site was started. Active membership here signing a petition is a drop in the bucket. If that.

I do wonder why no one uses galvanize in the mix for frames like body panels. I remember before cars had them. We had a '65 Impala with rotted floors in '68.

Thank you for confirming that. I appreciate it. It seems that the product name has stayed the same, but the actual product itself has changed.

There seems to be trucks out there, which for some reason, even though they are in the salt belt, have no significant frame rust issues. My old boss has a 2008 Tundra which I believe is one of the Toyota trucks which had frame rot problems and part of the replacement campaigns. He brings it in for inspections every year and they touch it up here and there, but there is no systemic corrosion problems. He has been told (by the dealer he takes it to) that there are random frames out there and come in that don't have rust problems. His center carrier pumpkin in the rear became porous, and he had to deal with it, and his entire brake line network rusted out and had to be replaced, but the frame is solid. It makes no sense, but there it is. My 2014 is now nine-years out and looks fine. I painted the welds and hitch and coated it when I aquired it, but there is no evidence that any previous owner ever touched it. I'm in New England. YMMV

My disappointment stems from the simple fact that once something is determined to be defective how can it "end" being defective? Why do they have a cut-off? There's no way you could say the rust on these frames is compatible with the life of the vehicle. My last truck was over 25 years old when I gave her up (96' F-150) and I never even thought about the frame - the only reason I turned it in was for comfort...

    Bingo.

You really think all members of Tacomaworld are having issues with their trucks..?

Huge rust issues on the west coast, where a significant portion of members live.

Note the intense sarcasm in my voice.

Rust is not an issue for many members on here.

Rusted frames in the Midwest and North East.
Paint issues everywhere. That's still a lot of Tacoma's.

I recently got a 2013, and checked the frame even though it was a garaged, one owner New Mexico truck. As I type this it is 15% humidity and precipitation is low. Nobody here ever heard of Ziebart, although I lived just south of Lake Erie in the late 70’s and remember quarter panels so rusted a German Shepard could have fallen through the hole.

My 2008 was inspected by Toyota several owners ago, and Toyota approved it for a frame replacement. Last service record showed 'awaiting parts'.
Apparently, the original owner sold it before frame replacement and the next couple of owners didn't know it had been approved. I checked with Toyota and they told me I was two years past the warranty date.
My argument was that it had already been approved for the frame replacement, why couldn't they honor that? Or, at least discount the job?
Mine is still strong enough and I keep it coated with stuff to prevent rust, and inspect it regularly.

Several owners ago? Can't blame toyota for denying that one.

Some of the early 2nd gen frames aren't available anymore as it's been years since the campaign ended. Even if you were willing to pay full price, finding a frame may be impossible at this point.

I don't get why so many people are defending Toyota Corporate. Things don't become "un-defective" after a certain point - they admitted the frames are defective and should cover EVERYONE at ANYTIME who has the issue.

It's because once one is afflicted with Toyota Fanboy Syndrome, there is no cure. No amount of issues, poor QC, failures, etc. will allow the patient to buy anything but Toyota. They are forced to have a Toyota in their driveway; or lawn if the problem is catastrophic.

So, you want Toyota to warranty the frames for life? Not very realistic.

All of you that are complaining about the cutoff date for the frame replacement program are missing a very big point. If they move the cutoff date to include your truck, what happens to the folks that are now just outside of that new date?

Used to be the body rusted away first, truck frames usually lasted practically forever.
I don’t blame Toyota as much as the supplier, DANA Corporation. Although, it’s possible that Toyota spec’d the frame as it was, without adequate rustproofing.
Again, my only real complaint is that the vehicle was approved for replacement and now isn’t eligible.
In other words, found to be defective within the twelve year window.

This is NOT a warranty issue - it is a defect with the manufactured product. See the definitions by US law below:

    • Defects means any part of the Works not completed in accordance with the Contract, or completed with deficiencies and flaws and includes deficiencies, flaws, etc. developed during the execution of Works and during the Defect Liability Period.

    • Warranty means Borrower’s guarantee to Buyer that the Items will function as intended during the warranty period set forth in the applicable Export Order.

lol. Your attorney google skills suck. Nothing that you linked has anything to do with the rust issue. Just stop.

Everything rusts. You expect every car manufacture to cover rust for life? There are plenty of American trucks on the road that are only a few years old that have the beds rotting off them. If you live is a salt/rust state, there is some owner responsibility that comes into play to prevent rust including the frame.
