A former employer of mine worked on base at Gander NL. He recalls the F104 were one of the few interceptors that could reach the altitude of the British Vulcan bombers during scenarios.

If you think 6k fpm is steep wait till you descend at 20,000 feet per minute that the C-17 is capable of. Between the reverses out the blown flaps out and the direct lift control (DLC) using the spoilers this plane is pretty damn impressive considering it’s size.

Yes, the C-17 is a beast. I'd like to see the recovery of a 20,000 FPM descent:

Had a Lake Buccaneer flying boat fly over me earlier. Wasn’t expecting anything like that so I didn’t have my camera ready. Weird looking little thing!

I've always had a thing for OV-10s. Also always had a thing for geeky girls.

The Navy squadron I was in we had 2 OV-10's...an A and a D model. I always liked working on them.....but they were nice because you could just turn the O2 on and get pure oxygen staright from the hose to help with hangovers...

I always thought the OV-10 would make a pretty damned cool flying RV. You and a passenger, and cargo room and capacity for the camping gear and toys (like 6,000 lbs, if I remember right), with STOL capabilities on rough terrain. That could get you off the beaten track pretty well!

    Just the basics
    Designed for Vietnam "camping" parties.

They should start making firebomber versions of the C-17

Back at Truckee (TRK) today for EAA Young Eagles flight for my daughter (she is in the RV in the first photo). Great job by the local chapter sharing aviation with kids. The F18s, P3, T45s were still there and getting ready to depart this morning.20230625_081035.jpg20230625_073727.jpg20230625_084327.jpg
