Hey guys I’m having a weird thing happen to my truck right now. So yesterday I took my 14 Tacoma 2.7 liter auto into the tire shop to get a nail pullled out of my front tire. While I was there I had him switch the front tires to the back and back to the front cause the front were starting to wear down. As I was leaving the shop I heard a loud scratching squeal sound for about 2 seconds then it stopped and hasn’t came back since.
I’m starting to feel this weird bogging sort of feel when I’m accelerating from a stop and my rpm has changed. It used yo always be exactly at 2k rpm when I was going 60 mph and now it’s at 65 mph ??
Anyone here have any idea what could be going on ? I’m totally clueless here

Backing plate tiny bit bent when the rim was removed, common on small rims as there is little clearance with the backing and rim. Or rust was dislodged. As long as it stopped its nothing to fret about.

    The drivability is unrelated.

Hey thanks for your reply, do you think that would explain the rpm change ?

Wonder if the emergency brake is sticking.

Backing plate wouldn't explain the RPM or dragging feel, a partially on emer brake would.

The guy did use an impact gun to tighten the bolts on, maybe he tightened them too tight and the tire can’t move freely now ? Not sure if that’s even possible, probly not

Do you have the same size tires front and rear? And do they have the same miles on them? Guys will often buy only 2 tires at a time. On a 2wd truck that doesn't hurt anything as long as they are kept on the same axle. But even if you buy the exact tire and in the same size the new tire will be larger in diameter than the old ones. If you start mixing brands and tire sizes the difference can be significant.

If you had newer tires on the front, they could have been slightly larger. When moved to the rear drive axle that larger tire would need more power to turn and the rpm's will be somewhat different. Your odometer and speedometer will now be different.

If someone has a 4X4 they should always buy 4 identical tires at the same time. Driving in 4X4 with mismatched tires can damage the drivetrain.

Sometimes guys at tire stores can get carried away with the air wrench and overtighten lug nuts. I suppose enough to cause your brakes to be dragging. This could be on front or rear.

YOU didn't, he may have or when he lifted the vehicle, he caught one of the cables or bent something. Lift each wheel with the vehicle chocked and in neutral and spin each tire. A sticking or partially engaged emergency brake is going to be pretty easy to catch.

You could also have a caliper in the front not disengaging all the way and dragging which is why I suggest all of them be done.

That doesn't mean the tire shop didn't.

Is the speedometer sensor, or whatever it's called on one of the wheels?

Curious as to what your rpm was before this with the 2.7L automatic. Is it 4WD? My 2.7L 4WD manual transmission is around 2400 rpm at 65 mph in 5th.

Hey thanks for the replies, I stood right by the guy the whole time and he never opened my car door so I know he didn’t do the e brake.
I will definitely try spinning the tires when I get home from work today.
After more research I’m starting to think it may have something to do with the u joints. Anyone think that makes any sense ? I read people with similar issues like maybe the bogging I’m feeling is actually just vibration

Do you guys think that if my u joints were already compromised, that jacking up the truck from the rear diff could cause further damage? Like the change in angle could have shifted something around ? Thanks for your guys help

I know someone that just had a flat with their Honda CR-V AWD. She found the nail in the tire, I recommended if possible get the tire fixed/patched. That would save a lot of money.

Don't mess around with a suspected u-joint problem. Those things are sketchy if they come apart while driving.

Drop the driveshaft and articulate them around, if one is loose or tight you'll feel it
