You can still shift with the key off.
Pop the little cover off the shift lock.
    Then press the button down.

No idea how to get the ohm meter up in there I can't even see which connectors I'm pressing on. Tried to get my camera in there to see it maybe a mirror would work better. If I give up what is better to replace first ? Wiring or sensor?

I would have to dive into the wiring diagram. But I would think you could back probe the wires at a different connector in the cab. I never have looked, but if you can, maybe that would be the easier option. After @Dm93 posted his 4WD post, it got me thinking. Why can’t we test the range switch the same way? I just never sat down and looked.

I may take a look later today.

I saw this on YouTube videos but it was a different vehicle so I am not sure. Some had removed the battery others removed the tire but who knows vehicle to vehicle. Is there a diagram to follow the wiring through the truck ?

I’m looking at the diagrams now.
IH1 and PB connectors. But it’s going to take some “converting”.
Pull out the pen and paper:rofl:

I'd rather be doing that right now than working on grain bins.

Of course the down side of testing at the PB connection is it will only identify the problem.
It will not pin point it. You still have the Neutral switch and connector. So you’ll still be under the truck testing the connector for the switch. But the connector (harness side) is easier to test. If the connector is good, you can then call it a bad neutral switch.

In short, doing the check at PB might be easier, but it’s more “work”.
    Run 100 yards, walk 200……

Mine seem to be slightly different. From the old post.

    Pin 5 (Green/Black) Park
    Pin 6 (Red) Reverse
    Pin 8 (Blue/White) Neutral
    Pin 2 (Blue/Black) D & 4
    Pin 1 (Yellow) 3
    Pin 7 (Red/Yellow) 2 & 1

Do I put the pins of the Multi meter right into that connector?

Do I take the connector out and test inside?

    What is different?
If you are talking about the wires, yours will be different.
Dm93 has a manual transmission. So he doesn’t have as many wires as an automatic will.
Go by the PIN numbers, ignore the wires.

    You can, yes.
Leaving it plugged in just helps “hold it” for you.
If you have a big sewing needle or safety pin, they make great probes.
Stick them in the back (wire side) and they stay there.
