    Hi all,

I have a deposit down on a Colorado Zr2, but after massive delays I’m starting to have a change of thought. I’ve always been interested in the Tacoma and am starting to debate that instead. I’d prefer the V6 and simple features as opposed to the new tech the new trucks will have as well. Around by me in Long Island most dealers charge over MSRP. There is a dealer who you can purchase online from that doesn’t charge over msrp, I was wondering if anyone has done this with their Toyotas. Is it better than going to the dealership? Being I’m sure there’s almost no deals to be had on a TRD PRO, I figured why not to avoid the hassle but I’m interested to hear everyone’s thoughts. Thanks.

Welcome to TW! I would think / hope that this Toyota dealer's online price would equal their "at the dealership" price but maybe not? I guess the benefit of buying online is avoiding hearing those plaid coat vultures say "what's it going to take to put you in this Tacoma Pro today!" :)

The price is MSRP less trade in and plus tax. I can even finance it online and just go to pick it up. Never knew this existed before. I’m not looking to pay any markups.

fwiw, the 2022/2023 V6 tacoma has lots of tech both in the drivetrain as well as options, so you are not getting away from it.

many people buy vehicles online but if it were me, i would only put a small deposit of $500 or $1000 down that is refundable until i can see and drive the truck. i would not fill-out loan papers until i saw and drove it.

It has the option to do the financing in person at the dealer. I’m debating it. If this was 3-4 years ago I’d go to the dealer and haggle but I know how it would go. No way they’ll come off MSRP in NY when almost everyone charges “market adjustments”

I bought my solar octane TRD pro over the dealerships website. I worked out a deal starting I would buy it for MSRP including tax title license and their normal documents fee, but no markup and I didn't get their added paint protection or warranty. They were fine with it, sent me electronic paperwork and I brought a cashier's check. You can get financing beforehand and the bank will approve it for the amount of the loan. Show up and if they try to sell you more say no.

I searched for a while for my pro, I couldn't find hardly anyone that didn't charge at least 5k over MSRP in my home state, I found one place that charged MSRP in state but the one they got sold in one day. I never heard anyone mention doing anything less than MSRP on a pro that is for sure and I checked various states around me. Finally a dealership in a near by state got the MGM that I have They charged no mark up sent the deal in writing to me and kept it the same when I picked it up and signed for it. They saved it for me when I confirmed I was headed that way no deposit necessary just my word that I was coming. If you plan to finance Toyota has some good deals right now on Tacoma which usually doesn't include the pro but right now it says all trims! I know they are way better rates then my local credit union. Good luck and I believe you will really like the Tacoma if you get it. I absolutely love mine, it drives great. I don't think you would regret getting a Tacoma!

Are you sure it’s a pro you want? Why not buy an off-road and put some wheels, tires, suspension, and some skids on it? It’ll still be cheaper than the pro. And good choice on not going with the Colorado. That new 2.7 turbo engine is a nightmare. Turbo charged, direct injection, and cylinder deactivation. Just a ticking time bomb

its alot cheaper to buy a off road and add the pro shocks, what is it that makes you want the pro?

Tacoma trd pro msrp: $50k, Tacoma trd off-road msrp: $40k. For $10k, I could upgrade the off-road and make it way more capable than the pro.

You could probably go buy a new Silverado ZR2 for less money, and less effort.

This is every cluesless base off-road owner. You are ignoring the advanced technology and TRD off-road premium package that gets included with the TRD pro. Not to mention the gill, skid plate, the hood, and the trx pro uca and fox shocks

Maybe the OP just wants a Pro. It ain't always about capabilities.

While they may not add value for everyone-
the pro has tons of additional features (Edit- like harrytasker said) other that those listed above.
A 40k OR is missing tons of stuff a $50k pro has. I think you'd have to get a manual with no port or dealer adds to hit that price.

who's to say they won't anyways once you go in to pick it up?

    "cleaning fee"
    "dealer prep fee"
    "liscensing fee"
    "undercoating fee"

all those fee's can easily have a comma in the amount, your only option at that point is to walk away, after months of thinking you've got a truck, and now have nothing.

None of that adds any value for someone who wants the truck for off-road use.

Back in April you could get one around around the high 50s to mid 60s. I just looked they are around 70-80 with the AEV bumper, and why wouldn't you want the AEV bumper if you are getting the ZR2.

I'd just get the next gen Pro, or Ranger Raptor at this point. If you need a truck now, and want a Tacoma I'd pick up a SR 4 or 6cyl preferably a utility package. The 6cyl DCSB SR with a ARB air locker, and a set of aftermarket racing shocks will out perform a stock Pro all day long.
