Really thought those were only meant to be used with tube; yeah we had one of those at my school.

I'll grab one when it's on sale

That 12 ton would fit the bell; it'll be a tool for strictly 1/2" solid bar.

Making another 1 of those mounts for the third row will almost pay for that tool itself.

And there's the chance of doing another 2 of those mounts for another Land Cruiser, excluding my own.

What your lacking is the years working in the field where you sometimes needed to cobble things together to do a job with no time to get access to the correct tools.

So many things can be done with a 10 ton porta power to me one of those must have tools.

When it comes to bending and pressing things .

    Careful where you thread :luvya:

I've got plenty of field experience, in a different profession!

That small press would work out though for sure, the radius doesn't need to be tight which would be hard to do with 1/2" solid.

Don't know why I wrote them off when I was asking myself yesterday, just thought they were only meant for tube.

They are not that expensive most iron workers the fancy machines not the human iron workers.

Depending on the options and manufacture can be had under $10,000.00 not millions

What's funny is you just reminded me of an old friend I had who was a combat engineer.

Chill as fuck guys and although they can get stuff done, we hardly ever implemented them cause they were always working on FOBS and never OPs we were attempting to establish. That and it'd take over an hour just to do a vehicle patrol each way just to bring them over from TQ or the MEK and back.

Oh man and the barricades we'd improvise setting up for setting up moving control points?

The Marine Corps; doing the most with the least amount of tools/equipment.

No you're right, many of us in this thread as welders have learned to improvise very well! I think that's what you were driving at.

I was more on the side of, if I don't have to improvise I'd rather not

My body hurts and I've been in the mindset of smarter not harder.

    Very valid Point !

I still have the mindset time is money work order completed ASAP most jobs were never billed to finished .

I will admit the transition from work to hobby level in my case gets confusing at times . Habits are hard to over come in my head at times.

Then with my own projects they could sit for months/ much longer while I was out of Town.

That last statement resonates for many in different areas as well.

For instance, myself (and many of my own friends) put off replacing their own radiator or something simple for months. Yet when a friend needs help or something done, we're quick to tackle it right away (even if it's harder than our own projects).

Too hot, got lazy, mocked up my rear mount with some of that solid bar.

    20230625_131750.jpg

On the plus side, I got me some carriage bolts (zinc shown, but using stainless steel since they just arrived) -

    20230625_090046.jpg

Threw some paint on her so I can run it Wednesday.

Then when I get back I'll make a new mount using square tube and a U bolt configuration as initially planned.

Thanks man. Been taking some time lately to “rebrand” myself when it comes to this stuff

Started an Instagram even though I hate social media. IronRyno Fabrication

    https://instagram.com/ironrynofabrication?igshid=MjEwN2IyYWYwYw==

I started CNC plasma cutting all of my frame plates for the connection to the frame

Came up with a logo and started putting my “name” in every set regardless of whether it’s seen or not haha
