Did a KDMax tune, mostly to help reduce shift hunting... and because I fequently tow a small trailer to have the option (when I press the ECT) to lock in the selected gear, except when in cruise control.

I did not notice any mpg variance. I did notice more smooth shifting curve and much less hunting. Also the pedal is instantly responsive, which I wish I could soften just a tiny bit when I'm in traffic jams, or on intense mountain roads trying to slowly ease around.

    Overall, like the tune.

ps On prior Tacoma (2015) I got slightly larger tires and lost about 2 mpg on highway. I then regeared. My mileage stayed the same (-2 mpg from small tires) but it was no longer sluggish on acceleration. I did not get a tune on that truck--didn't really know about tunes then... when tuning they do take into account your tire size.

Pretty sure I’m using 94 RON. Used to use 91E0 from shell, now they got 93 over here. I prefer chevron now, runs the best.

I’m pretty sure it’s same as the states.

Tune I’m running is a manual only tune, not sure what transmission you have.

    Ah.

From my experience, premium SFOB tune really woke up this 3.5L. “Feels” like about 30% more torque at lower RPMs, it’s a full Otto cycle tune. Well and it feels much better/smoother throughout the RPM range, none of this 3500 RPM power surge.

IMHO simulated “Atkinson cycle” was a huge fail. When I didn’t have all the extra weight, lift and 33s, my truck got better MPGs than stock while having more power.

Now I’ve got about 650# of constant weight, 2” lift, 33s and still able to achieve advertised MPGs driving conservative. Of course I’m paying more for 94 E0, but the truck just drives amazing on it.

It's not simulated, it only seems that way since we have VVT and the engine is able to swap between Atkinson and Otto.

In the 3.5 It is simulated by holding an intake valve a bit open during compression stroke at light loads.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Just because it doesn't technically provide shorter strokes for intake and compression, I think it's misleading to say it's "simulated" since leaving valves open longer achieves the same result.

mileage is really based on how you drive. the tune does solve some issues with how the truck feels but i wouldnt look for it to provide you with a boost in mileage.
