How have you liked driving those tires being E load? Looking to put on some 265/70/17 tires & stuck between C & E currently

I love them. The Grabbers are 6 ply E rated instead of the traditional 10 ply. I think that probably helps some.

They are an improvement over the stock tires in every way. Dry and wet pavement, obviously off road. I haven’t run any other E rated tires but I can definitely recommend the Grabbers.

As you may have seen, I just drove across the country and back with them and they performed flawlessly. Really good at prolonged highway driving which I would not necessarily expect from a hybrid tire.

    Hey guys!

Have any of you re-geared your Tacoma? 5.29 gears...if so where did you get it done?

I haven't done on mine. 5.29 gears are for bigger tires such as 35 or bigger if you plan to go off road lot. If you don't want bigger tires then no need to regear.

You can learn more here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/is-it-worth-re-gearing.747670/#post-26624358

If you want to learn more, you can go to any local off road shop in your area... they will explain on how it works to you. They will tell you that it is recommended or not depending on what you plan to use the truck for.

From what I read and listened to; if I am going to add weight to the truck...such as bumpers, lift/suspension, tires 34s, rack..tent etc.. best to re-gear with what you anticipate to have than to re-gear after you add the weight.

Trying to build it without having to run into snags. I do not want a scenario where I add something and be forced to have to add something else to accommodate the new add (ie. bigger tires and weight before the truck can handle the modification). I also heard from TacomaBeast talking to the creator of 5.29 Nitro Gear; which he said the re-gearing should be the first thing you do before modifying your vehicle (adding weight).

    What are y'alls thoughts?

Some people don't do regear but they use tune. Even they have off road tires and other modifications such as bumpers, etc.

You can regear before or after modifications.. So its up to you. But it is recommended if you go off road lot, then regear your truck if you have 35 or bigger.

I am on stock gear while I have topper, racks, and bunch of work tools for home construction/remodeling.. My truck runs fine. It runs fine with or without pedal commander.

Although I haven’t regeared, I do have the KDMax tune.

Obviously I can’t speak from first hand experience but the general consensus around the forum seems to be that 33” tires are fine on stock gears but anything bigger (I know you mentioned 34’s) and you will want to re-gear.

I did run 33” mud terrains for a little bit and it made the truck an absolute slug. Braking and acceleration took a huge hit, even with the truck tuned. It was driveable but it took alot of the fun out of driving the truck. If that makes sense or helps at all as a point of reference.

Appreciate you guys feedback for sure. I went in Nitro Gear page and they have a chart for what they recommend. It’s nice to hear your guys real world experiences. I do plan to add about 800-1000 lbs give or take; when daily driving would not keep trail equipment on truck.

I will put a KN 77 intake and RIPP coil packs this wkend. So that would be for the engine mods (Pedal C, CAI, and coil packs). After that the last would be the gears bf I went on to lift, suspension, tires, sliders, armor etc…

Did the KD tune fix your trucks performance?

How much weight do you have on truck? What tires/suspension/lift?

I’ve had the truck tuned for a couple years now and I love the way it drives. But with the amount of weight you’re going to add and the size tires you want, I think you will need to regear. The only weight I have on my truck is my shell.

Tires/suspension/lift: stock (I haven't done that part yet, which you see my thread about mods list.)

Weight: no idea exactly but I guess around 500lbs from tools that includes the racks and topper. I haven't gone to weight station yet.

Next mod would be either new wheels or front bumper which I am deciding on.

I would do bumper and wheels at the same time. Especially if they re bigger and need room; lol a bumper is a nice reason to go bigger tire lol
