Ever consider a LS swap? Finding a low mileage 5.3L is pretty easy. I purchased mine for 900.00 with transmission with 65k miles.

    I hadn't until today! o_O

Open to all options of course... one of my main concerns is that I bought a newer vehicle to avoid too much faffing around (look how that turned out ). How would an LS swap work with all the electronic shenanigans in these newer trucks?

I'm not a mechanical idiot, but I'm also no mechanic (I'm a software engineer and a bicycle mechanic lol), so I don't want to put myself in a position where I'm in over my head with future work on the thing.

The engine and ECM will not work with Toyota. A new digital dash would be needed. There are some threads on here about some swaps.

Since you live in Denver, emissions is a concern as well. I'm just south of you 20-30 minuets and this is not a concern....yet.

    When in doubt...better call Saul.

Not sure his business does full engine swaps, but it never hurts to ask. I knew this guy back in his younger years and always had a great reputation, put himself through school, and started a business.

This was 3rd video in a series of 8. Gives a good idea of what you’re dealing with. https://youtu.be/m_426-Xm4bQ

Thanks. Yeah, that's a bit more than I think I want to bargain for... I actually live SW of Denver in the foothills (Unincorporated Jefferson County), but it's my closest city. Emissions is still a concern, and my current emissions test expires next year.

I don't have anywhere they could realistically work on it. No garage... just a dirt driveway.

    I had 11.75:1 406 sbc in my old 1982 Toyota 4x4 pickup . That was a fun ride !!

An LS swap doesn't sound like the right solution for you anyway.

So @T-Rex266 reached out to his contacts and got some suggestions on shops:

    Smooth Rides on Irma (Northglenn)

    Toy Automotive in Ken Caryl

Get five friends feed them pizza and beer and rent an engine hoist from a local equipment yard for $200 and have the old engine out and new engine installed in a weekend !!!!
