We'll, I've got a few years on you, but you're further up the wisdom ladder than I am. I'd love to have a Grom and a Husky 701. My plan on either, as always, is just not to fall. I deal with enough aches and pains as it is. For now though, I'm weighing out the pros and cons of putting Pirelli Scorpion Rally's on the CB. The con side of the list remains empty.

What an awesome story! That last sentence makes it SUPER hard for me...

I love my grom and how I have it modded with the 164cc big bore etc... but man even then to go an off ramp or two at 60+ mph on the highway you are WIDE OPEN on some TINY tires, or the here and there commute when i decide to ride to work (10 mi each way) on a nice day on the 55mph back road... it just.... well not ideal given elevation changes etc with the less than ideal road surface, small tires and lack of power.

Stop light to stop light in town at 45 n under, PHENOMINAL. Park anywhere I want, zoom in and out of traffic at an easy flick of the bars a hop on and go to the market 0.8mi away WITH MY MILK CRATE ;) amazing.

But lately I find myself hopping on the big ass super tenere more than the grom. And while It doesnt have the milk crate  it has the power to be able to comfortably cruise at highway speeds stably the few off ramps (2ish miles) to the other side of town.

Part of me wants to get a CB300R as another bike... then have the grom and the CB duel it out till the death (sale) of one.

EDIT - The grom is also getting up there in miles (nearing 10k ~ 5.5k with the big bore kit) While its not much in the moto world, for a grom quite a bit. That stated damned thing runs great and pulls just as hard as it did once I finished the big bore all the years ago.

Sounds like a worthwhile experiment to me. Ride them both. Put them up head to head. See who’s the last man standing. Either way you win. You end up with a light weight, agile, fun to ride yet fuel efficient commuter/grocery getter. The 300 won’t have your hands feeling clammy when turning onto the highway on ramp though. And I had very similar concerns about those small tires. We get so many potholes here, our roads are 70 percent cold patch from the public works trying to keep them filled in. As much as I loved my Grom and regret selling it, I wouldn’t trade my 300R for one. I would however consider adding one to the stable. Hell, I was on my way out the door on Thursday to buy one, but got talked back inside. There’s a lot of crossover between the two bikes in my use, but the CB takes you through some doors that just aren’t open to the Grom.

Edit to add this YouTube video about a high mileage Grom. Not the original engine, but not too bad considering the heavy use.

Swap a 300 engine into it. Problem solved!

I like the last white ones or the black gold. You'll like the tech 7's, such a comfortable boot like right from the box.

This will be a shot in the dark, but looking for some experience on these type of bikes. I haven't been on a sportbike since early 2000's when I was in my early 20's(GSXR600).

I went a few months ago and test rode a W800. It wasn't a bad bike, just didn't tickle my pickle other than the looks. I've always loved sportbikes, and keep pawning for a CBR600RR.

For the folks that have been on both of these type bikes, do the CBR's feel lighter? I understand it's apples and oranges, just trying to get an idea before going over to test ride the CBR

And b/c we all like pics

Best of both worlds, naked sport bike? XSR900?

The XSR900 with cafe kit would be the only consideration, and I have no clue what that'd cost. The "plain" ones just don't do it for me. Nothing against the bikes at all(as I don't have any experience with them), just a looks thing.

I do love the look of this though.

What about a sport tourer? Slightly more upright and more comfy that a RR?

    Yamaha Tracer 9 GT?

    F900XR?

    S1000XR?

Not really my cup-o-tea. I honestly don't need any of them, but I just keep coming back to the CBR. I'm just trying to get justification for myself

I loved my Tiger 660. I'd happily buy another one if I wanted a sport tourer. Bummer it has no CC, but nothing a gocruise can't fix.

I have seen a few Tracer 9 GTs around though, and prices are pretty reasonable on them.

Great points in that article. I'm not looking for an all-around bike.....so the heart can take lead on this one :D I'm looking more for a twisty road/fun bike that just looks cool. I want to be able to go for some brisk rides, and my little Rally just doesn't do that on the road. I have fond memories of twisting the throttle on my GSXR years ago and I love the look of cafe racers(just never owned one). I did look at the XSR900's a few minutes ago and they're right in line pricewise of the CBR's, so that's good. The cafe kit looks to be around $1600, so I'm just not sure if I'd "love" it that much more after the cost.
