Yeah the best part is when they roll the old loan into the new loan because their vehicle is not paid off. 1000 or more car payments are not the norm.

Add the 6-7 years payments in contrast to the old normal 5 years. Conflated with the current interest rates. Car market is pushing it, at some point people are going to have a car note with a defunct vehicle. Loans are pushing it and people are eating the interest cause they can "afford" the payment.

If that's true (Which I doubt, the Pro from a performance stand point at base is fully loaded to include the ISO seats). That is a huge win, I do not want to deal with those seats.

Many of them are stashing their inventory in regional lots to create the illusion of a shortage.

Just imagine the rants on TW when those fancy seats start squeaking and Toyota Corp. won't warranty because: wear item. :goingcrazy:

Let’s just hope those seats aren’t standard in the Pro.

I will say, the one nice thing about always having a payment is that you're used to it. Unlike some of us (I've had my '08 since '09 when I bought it 1 year off lease) and haven't had a payment on it since 2012. The problem with that is, I'm so used to not having a monthly payment, I never want one again. Which means I probably won't get another vehicle again :annoyed: So maybe there's something to be said for always having a payment hahah.

Added “feature” for us who haven’t made a payment on a Tacoma in a decade plus (me 17 years) is seeing that $400-450 payment turn into $700-800.

Meh, I’d rather keep my cash in a brokerage account and keep a car payment than spend all my cash on a truck outright

Toyota is not gonna have any trouble selling the new Tacomas, and I agree with several above who said they’re likely to be eye-poppingly expensive.

Several things changed in the market the past few years that, taken together, upended everything. The pandemic, chip shortage, and more people wanting trucks for towing RVs, overlanding, and whatever else created a completely different market. This last point we know because of the number of trucks out here in the last 3 model years with mileage you’d expect from a vehicle 7-9 years old.

…And so POS 20 year-old Chevys with 150k+ miles like one my FIL had suddenly were worth $16k on trade in. -?!-
Meanwhile, the dealerships all recalibrated, much as the airlines have; and thus the spigot flows only fast enough to fill the bucket the dealer wants it to fill.

So you have people with overvalued old trades; pent-up demand; and frankly some younger buyers who’ve probably surrendered to not owning a home any time soon because they don’t have $3,000-$4,000 a month (particularly if they’re single); and in all of that, $1,000/mo isn’t the alarming figure it is to a lot of people here. Not to mention you have the work/business write-off segment of the market.

The world has changed. I’ve worked in retail a very long time (Circuit City and CompUSA). You can clutch your pearls at a $65,000 MSRP Tacoma, but I am quite certain Toyota will not only do it, they’ll get it too. I think the OP has this one right.

Your statement would hold more weight if the competitors were doing the same. It would be extremely tough for Toyota to justify the 4th gen Tacoma at $60k+ (specifically the Pro/TH) if the competitors cost less and offer more.

I've also started to see more Toyota dealerships in my area charge markup. Combine the two and I imagine they'd lose a lot of customers.

Btw can someone just create a poll w/ the votes visible? Then we can solidify who guessed right and who guessed wrong based on nothing more than speculation and get to say I told you so to a bunch of people we don't actually know

With the ranger raptor in the mid-high 50s and the GM twin AT4x/zr2 bison in the 60s, I think Toyota will be just fine

    For documentation:
    2014 Tacoma 4x4 V6 SB DC Base: $ 27,885
[SL] [ED] [CT] [TO] [Shipping] $ 3,960
    OTD: $ 31,845

Times sure have changed in only ten years. Tough to do a direct comparison, but I'm thinking that if you could configure the same truck as above today,
it would be pushing $45k (?)

That’s $42k after inflation. So having a much improved truck for just a touch more seems pretty reasonable

Excluding packages and accessories, I don't think $60k+ is in Toyota's best interests nor do I think it's reasonable considering no front locker, no automatic 4wd, worse suspension, etc., etc. Hell, the (2024) Bison offers 5 steel skid plates and 35" tires.

Scrutinizing the available hard data out there, it looks like the Tacoma may also be pushing the $50k level envelope for the 2024 refresh. Maybe even $60k for full-boat "everything on it but hot's and pickles"... Overlapping the Tundra/Tacoma boundary..... IMO: Mistake: "Icarus"
