Sorry, man! But be grateful; it can always be worse. That bug must have been cruising! She was obviously texting or playing with the radio. Idiot. I have a '68 bug (a REAL bug) and it would have done half the damage and probably killed the driver!

But, again, count your blessings and I wish you a speedy and full recovery!

Glad you're well enough to be typing here. Trucks can be replaced, you can't be. It may be time to contact the law firm of Dewey, Cheetam, and Howe and get them on it early. The sooner they get their investigator involved the better.

“The seat reclined back almost fully from the initial impact”

Why did the seat recline leading to your injuries after getting hit? That’s a big issue I’d bring up with Toyota!

Damn buddy, that’s pretty tough. Hope you heal quick. Can’t wait to see updates on the next ride.

Side note: shout out to the asswipes playing accident investigator like they’ll get to the bottom of whether or not OP was at fault. Y’all need an enema.

Similar thing happened to me in April of this year in my Access cab Tacoma. I was forced to abruptly stop on the interstate because of a rush hour slow down. A few moments later a uninsured driver in a BMW smoked me from the rear without checking up. I never saw it coming. The BMW ended up under my truck. I was pushed into a Lexus SUV and they were pushed into a 1/2 ton truck. We all went to the hospital and three vehicles were totaled. My seat nearly fully reclined and got locked into that position. The drivers seat/seat frame was visibly twisted. I believe the reclined seat caused the shoulder belt to grab my bicep area instead of shoulder upon smashing into the car in front of me. That caused bruising and straining. No broken bones but I'm still not 100%. The empty passenger seat reclined as well but slide/recline mechanism seemed to work ok after the accident.

The other driver’s fault of course but you put yourself in the bite. Too leisurely getting over and off the road with the pace of traffic around you.

Woah, that’s unsettling. I’m not an engineer but that still sounds like a seat design flaw!

People who cause accidents like this, just plowing into someone, are usually completely inept. The one time I was rear-ended was by a lady with no insurance. And she dared to try to blame me for her slamming into my bumper. So the best part is they won't even take the lesson to heart and change their ways. They'll just do something like that again and wonder why life is unfair.

Roll-over neck injury is pretty common. Arm pain might be associated. Hope those vertebrae are okay.

Wow that sucks man. Hope ya bounce back quick and find another truck. I have long been in the habit of hitting my turn signal long before I turn. Still does not always help tho.

So sorry, hope you heal 100%. I would still sue the other motorist. Get a lien put on their future income. Every day there's some fucking mayhem going on.

The gravel part of the shoulder isn't maintained very well; or at all, really. It's rough, the drop-off from the asphalt to dirt/gravel is 2-4 inches in spots, and the the asphalt is broken in several places. It's difficult to make the transition, and you still have to slow down a lot to do it safely and not beat your vehicle to pieces.

There are a lot of residential drives that access the highway like that in this area, and most of them don't have anywhere to move over as you approach. Speed limit on the highway is 55, but most people tend to run 10+ over the limit. I always start slowing down and signaling well before reaching the turn to give other drivers some warning and time to go around. I've lived there for a little over 20 years, and this is the first time something like this has happened.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. :)

Well the bright side is your truck did exactly what it was designed to do; protect you!

Rest up, the truck will get replaced.
