Shout out to this thread! I won't be back in the states for another 5 months, but when I do I plan on putting a little money into the 22' Tacoma and getting it decked out for camping. I have been living vicariously through all of these posts!! I can't wait to not smell burning s**t anymore and get back out in nature with good food and a bottle of top shelf bourbon.
My family will be moving to Fort Sill, OK in May so if anyone knows great places to go in the region I am all ears.

Going camping this weekend. Only this time with another family that has zero experience. It looks to be calling for rain most the weekend. Myself and my family don't have much experience camping in the rain as it is, to be going with another family that has zero, has me a bit concerned. They have been blowing our phones up with constant questions.

    Any suggestions ?

    Appreciate the quick response.

Our setup will be myself and my boy in the CVT roof top tent, my wife and my daughter in the van platform. We are placing a 10x10 canopy tent over the back end of the van. I plan to throw a tarp over the RTT just to keep it as dry as I can.---should I do this?

    We have rain gear.

The other family with us will be staying in a ground tent. We are letting them use a tarp under their tent. They are planning to place another 10x10 canopy tent over their tent.

Don't mean to be negative, but can you re-schedule? Camping in the rain is no fun IMO. Light intermittent showers maybe. But steady rain the entire time is no fun. In the PNW it's crap. Heavy steady rain sucks while camping.

Zip lock bags can be your friend! Great for food, electronics, and small clothing like socks. You can dig a small trench around your camping area to help with drainage if needed. (It sucks waking up in the middle of a small pond.) Tarps are and 550 Cord is a very inexpensive way to fashion some lean-to's and have a larger area of shelter.

it’s looking like mostly scattered thunderstorms type weather with the forecast changing every time I check it. Rain will be for sure, question is how often and steady. We are still going to be last minute type decision and may call it off.

It is Ohio so who knows.

I think my family is set with the truck RTT and the van platform. As for the other family like I mentioned above, my concern is a bit higher for them.

    Appreciative of the ideas.

Bring lots of tarps and rope to tie them up over the campsite.

It's just a little water. It'll be as fun as you make it. There are definitely things you can do to improve your situation as mentioned above, but ultimately the point of camping is to be outside and enjoy nature, which can still be done in the rain

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Beautiful spot. What mountain is that in the background?

Didn't get very many good 'camping' pics due to the intermittent wet weather and heavy bugs, but always good to get out regardless

    20230623_191221_HDR.jpg

This guy was hanging out in the boggy area just a few hundred feet from first nights camp spot
    20230623_204226_HDR.jpg

A slightly sketchy maneuver to get to the 2nd nights spot.. Two holes in the deck and one very soft spot. A tight s-turn kept one side of the truck on one I beam while the other side was on the good portion of the deck surface :D

It is a pretty nice spot. The area burned several years back but it's bouncing back nicely. That's Mt. Jefferson back there.
