TRD Pro Scoop Paint/Wrap?

Update: Had the replacement part from Toyota wrapped in a satin black vinyl from a shop in town for $50 and it looks just how it came from the factory.

Getting my hood bulge replaced under warranty due to some chipping/peeling (see pic).

It looks to me like the part is wrapped and not painted, but the dealership is saying that the replacement comes unpainted and they will need to paint it matte black. Does anyone know if there is a different part or if these are wrapped?

Interesting post.
I was under the impression Pro scoops were simply unpainted black plastic (I've seen that written on TW) and of course scoops on the Sport are body color painted. When I bought and paid a local body shop to paint a scooped hood (waiting for the proverbial hood swap was going to be an eternity as many have found out)... I bought an OEM scoop part from eBay. It arrived painted w/ a black paint that had flake in it... seemed off a midnight black Sport scoop...? Anyway, the eBay seller only responded "I'll look into it", when I said, I wanted just plain black plastic.... and never lifted a finger after that response. So, I wrapped the scoop, top and angled sides in 3M black matte (video on Youtube of guy doing the same on his white Sport). Now the scoop matches the non reflect black matte sticker (not the toppo map or lettering of recent ones) on hood bulge on '21 Pros, etc. The wrap has held up very well, btw (garage kept when not driving).

Hyperdip-ping it may have been even easier (prefer it over plastidip - much more OEM look. Doesn't have the bumpy texture of plastidip)?

 

Pro scoops are not painted. Sport scoops are painted. You can get it wrapped for super cheap.

 

So if it’s not painted why is it chipping?

 

They come unpainted from factory. You can leave it satin black or paint to match.

 

If you don't like reflections from it (I don't), wrapping it w/ matte black will be considerably less reflective than what Chito posted. I have caught that shine in videos of Pros (on the scoop). But I'm w/ OP - still don't understand what's going on w/ his scoop.... for what it is suppose to be?

 

They come unpainted. I had mine wrapped.

Again, if it’s unpainted/unwrapped why is peeling? Clearly the TRD pro hood scoop comes with some sort of finish from Toyota that is not just plastic.

 

Update for those that find this later. I took the part from Toyota and had a local shop wrap it in satin black, looks identical to how it came from the factory.

 

It is covered with something. More brittle than vinyl, but peels off like a sheet. Some kind of paint maybe? I have one that is almost all the way peeled, and it is definitely a different black than the way they come from Toyota.

 

What is the part number for the chrome version?
